Home Improvement Thread 2: Electric Redo the Loo

Hahaha! I think it’ll be somewhere between September and December that we’ll take it over if it all works out. Lots of talking and sorting money stuff to be done first!

It’s sorta something we will be part buying and part early inheriting from my dad.
Where abouts is it? Still in Ireland?

Yeah it’s a house my parents built on my mums family farm in Galway. Dad and his wife are struggling with the upkeep and maintenance and may need to release money to buy a bungalow in England too as they’re getting older. No one really wants it to leave the family. So he offered it to sell it to the three of us for what he needs extra for a bungalow and a little savings and the rest would he inheritance early. We’re all just trying to do the figures to see how it works out.

Chance to build a second system 🤔

A decent streaming system though!

Hope it all works out. Galway is lovely, but I never really explored much further away from it.

Yeah the city is fantastic, has a really good vibe about it, especially in the university term time. We’re about 40 minutes north up into the middle of nowhere. The scenery is pretty stunning once it’s not raining. There is a nice little denon cd player with some Q speakers, could get a streamer to stick into it at some point!

I’m getting Craggy Island vibes…

Monday will start week 11 of our renovations. Our poor dog hates it, I've been trapped at home every day that workers are here as she'd be too anxious alone with them. Yesterday was another loud day - sheet rocking the master bath. Today is an off day, so we are enjoying the quiet but there is more tear out scheduled for Tuesday in the laundry room.

Our trip to Atlanta to see Pearl Jam caused a slight delay as we said no work while my daughter stayed here with our dog and hers, so the powder bath off the kitchen isn't done. Kitchen looks great, but it still isn't complete - need to hang the pendant lights and do a bit more painting.

The projected finish date for the entire project was 8 - 10 weeks but it looks like we'll go at least 13 weeks. Cannot wait for this to be finished.

I lived at my in-laws for 12 weeks during our kitchen and stairs reno. At least I didn't have to be in the house for all that. I can only imagine your situation.

I seriously debated getting an air bnb or cheap hotel room during the demolition part to make it easier on our dog (and me), but ultimately couldn't justify the expense.

Having no functioning kitchen for 9+ weeks was definitely challenging. I put good use to my new instant pot, but we did do far too much take out. Had to get bloodwork done this morning and I asked my rheumatologist to order a lipid panel as well. I'm fearing the results.
