Album of The Year - Endgame

Interesting. The only ones that look low to me are the bands with few albums, but a huge influence on popular music (Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine, and Big Star). They're hard to rank in any list, so its not surprising.
Yea this list rewards a long steady discography

This is not the Hot Take thread, so I will hold my tongue.

VW over pretty much anybody is a head scratcher. Shows how proximity time-wise to something really can raise it in the ranks.
I went back to the 100-41 and found a few that I cant believe fell that far and aren't in the top 40.
But that's subjective so all I can do is subjectively...

It makes sense for a band like Joy Division who had 2.5 records. They could get lots of 1st place points but only for a couple of years. The ranking system does favour long-lived, consistently good bands like The Cure over important but short-lived bands like JD.

Yes and no. All 4 of their albums did pretty well for their year in question, and I'd think without looking that the debut and Modern Vampires would be in the top handful of those years. This ranking measures album impact relative to peers, not necessarily relative to the history of music. So VW does well by being one of the best bands of their era by a clear margin.

And just wait, we haven't seen The National yet.

If number 1 isn’t the Beatles I’ll make a shocked face. Given amount of albums and ones that came 1 or 2 it’s gotta be them surely?
I think it's going to be the Beatles #1 and Bob Dylan #2.

I would think #3 is likely to be someone jazz related, perhaps Coltrane or Miles, given the dominance of that genre for the first half of the 60s. But perhaps it will be Bowie, Neil Young or Radiohead?
