    New Music Friday!

Walter Martin put out an album today. If you like Walt, this'll maybe be up your alley. Concert at Coco’s is a family party record inspired mostly by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, Trini Lopez and that 90’s garage band from California called The Mummies.

    Best Music 🎵 of 2023!

My brother sent me this one from a Finnish blog. It leans pretty heavily to americana/country/folk. There's some interesting stuff on there (how someone could have 100 favorite albums in a year is maybe another story): https://www.onechord.net/2023/12/10/100-favorite-albums-of-2023/

    Best Music 🎵 of 2023!

Excellent. I've been waiting on this one too. AND they changed the font this year, so I can actually read it without going crosseyed.

    Best Music 🎵 of 2023!

Thanks for sharing this one. I've never heard of this website, but I have a ton of overlap with this list and am excited to dive into the rest.

    Guitar pop/power pop/indie pop/chamber pop/twee and sounds related!

This seems like as good a place as any for this one... did you ever randomly click on a bandcamp link and wonder why no one has ever heard of the group? For me, that happened a couple of weeks ago with this Long Island Railroad EP. I didn't see it mentioned anywhere on this site, but I...

    2023 Reading Challenge

I echo the thoughts for Lincoln in the Bardo. I read that one last year (I think) and find myself coming back to it often. BUT I'm not sure how many people I would recommend it to, because I'm sure I couldn't even do it justice in the description. (I keep meaning to check out the audiobook too...

    New Music Friday!

Beirut has a new album Hadsel out today. I guess he decamped to an island in northern Norway (Hadsel) and wrote a lot of it in winter isolation. Based upon my first listen, it's maybe a bit more atmospherica than some of his other stuff. I thin it's going to be my warm blanket this winter...

    Upcoming/Recent Shows

I caught No-No Boy last night (sorry, I always forget to take photos at shows). He put on a great show: part history lesson, part multimedia/visual experience, and incredible music. If any of you are into him, I'd suggest trying to catch him soon. He made a comment about how emotionally...

    New Music Friday!

Don't sleep on the new Skyway Man. The other day I read him described as a West Coast Dr. John. Really good album.

Needles and Grooves AoTM /// Vol 53- November 2023 /// ADI OASIS - LOTUS GLOW

Well, I was completely lost but really nice work on the clues. NOW it all seems so obvious. I’ve never heard of her before and am super excited to check out this album. Thanks and cheers!

I've been there. Especially since I moved farther from venues (f'ing suburbia). I like to tell myself that at least I'm still supporting the artists?

    Upcoming/Recent Shows

Not sure if there's a better place for this, but Cory Hanson just announced some tour dates. The room he's playing here is 100 person capacity, tops. He's going to blow the roof off. https://www.dragcity.com/news/2023-10-02-cory-hanson-on-us-tour

    New Music Friday!

Thanks so much for posting this. I loved his last record, and this one hadn't popped up on my radar yet. After 1 listen, it's just what I needed. And I just got tickets to see him play in a month.

The Funhouse - The Punks are all right

That's awesome! I had a friend that hit one of those Tacoma shows, and said it was a blast. I'm in the greater Boston area. I will wait patiently for something in the North East.

The Taproom (aka Anything and Everything Beer)

What an incredible spot, great beer, and Rose City Band!? It's been a few years since I've been in those parts (Wicked Weed had just sold out, actually), and I'm beyond jealous. I also can't help but mention their mural.

    Country / Alt-Country / Roots / Americana

A bit of a stretch for country/americana, but since this was posted by Western AF and the drummer's wearing a Jerry Jeff Walker shirt, I'm going to leave it here. A soulful Red Clay Strays with a frontman straight from 1955.

The Funhouse - The Punks are all right

When is NoFX going to announce their 40 years / 40 city dates? Teenage me needs to see them one last time.

    Country / Alt-Country / Roots / Americana

I was also pleasantly surprised by the new Zach Bryan. Admittedly, I haven't listened to much since the DeAnn album, but it all kind of droned together for me. The new one is way more interesting, based upon initial impressions.
