...difference between fantastic and great sounding records I guess, or maybe even great and good.

I have a problem with this too, but I'm pretty sure it's my set up.

@nolalady I upgraded my system to what audiophiles consider an entry level system a few years back now. My entry level system (LP-60 and bad speakers) wasn't even considered entry level to the places I was doing research when looking to upgrade haha. I noticed a big difference with that upgrade, so maybe upgrading again would help me hear these differences...

..But this system sounds great to me, so paying so much more to upgrade isn't worth it to me for now haha

You are not alone. I have a fine set up. I can't afford more. But also, I think it would be wasted on my ears.

You like what you like. There is not a thing wrong with that.

@RowBearToe I think I might be able to tell the difference in a really nice set up, but sadly, an upgrade is not part of my budget right now.

@nolalady I'm sure you'll find some room in the budget to upgrade at some point!

The system is usually what carries those pressings to another level. The ear test on a beginner setup may be negligible if you’re not exactly sure what you’re listening for.
