Yeah, as someone who up until 2 months ago lived in in NYC, their record shops are not my favorite and are generally overpriced (even by record shop standards). Academy is good. Turntable Lab and Rough Trade are fine but a little polished, still worth a stop. Norms sound and vision in Brooklyn is great for crate digging and that old store feel but really expensive.
Thanks all! Jazz record center and academy were on my short list. Which academy is preferred? I love all music, but big on jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, and soul @mdmost if I make it in, I’ll certainly look for ya.
Academy on Oak Street in Brooklyn is the best one. Lots of other good shops, bars, and food options close by, too. About 15 minutes walk from Rough Trade, too
