I’m seeing a lot of discourse against her via taking advantage of fans with the multiple releases to have all the songs, consumerism of everything she does. Plus people are rightly calling her out on her being a Billionaire, many more artists are deserving of the attention, and the fact that many people think her recent output is “mid”. I think the general public is just tired of her, she’s over exposed.

@Fleetwood-Matt i mean I get it for a certain age fan, she has quite literally been the soundtrack of their life and they’ve grown up with her. That doesn’t really happen very often/at all.

I do think a lot of the negativity toward the current album is fatigue.

Taylor Swift is a very successful corporation with a very successful product.

Well that's the beauty of music, you don't have to get it for it to exist or be popular. A massive amount of people get it and like her.

Yeah but WHYYYYY. I need this art quantified. Give it to me in a fraction.

My wife and I were just saying yesterday…no clue why she’s so incredibly famous. I don’t mind her music or anything but she’s probably the biggest pop star in the world and I can’t really figure out why

At her shows, people are signing the songs word for word. So either she's doing something right that resonates with people, which music often does, or it's just "cult of personality". I'd imagine her fans would have no clue why the music you listen to is worthwhile either. Just because she's popular, doesn't mean she's awful, unworthy, or not hard working. Her tour and taking her song rights back speaks otherwise.

Yeah but I never said any of those things, I just don't get why people like her.

Actually I should probably quantify this, I don't get why so MANY people like her.

If the previous us president taught us anything it's that massive amounts of free media coverage goes extremely far. Taylor is seen as the safe pop star, one that doesnt sell sex, one that's a good role model. I'll let you think about the racial aspects of why people say that.

She writes good pop songs. I dipped my toe in with 1989 but didn't become obsessive until her pandemic albums Folklore and Evermore. I've since gone back through her catalogue and can honestly say she's a master of her craft. Maybe give Folklore a chance and see if that resonates w you?

@tvham i quite liked Folklore. And I like some of her earlier poppy hits. I think Folklore resonated with me because I like most of the collaborators on it too

Someone quantified it on here at one point. Essentially, the key variable was COVID. Pre-COVID she released a couple of critical and commercial clunkers (Lover, Reputation). Then comes the pandemic and she released 2 stripped down albums in the same year that many people emotionally connected with. Then the following year she release two re-recorded albums.

She’s released 4 additional albums (2 re-records) since then and a career spanning tour + high profile relationship. All in 4 years time. She’s now bigger than Elvis and Jesus combined.
