I hope so, I waited too long for this letdown. And yes, I know I’m just the stereotypical Antonoff hater, sometimes he gets it really really right (melodrama) but more often then not, especially recently, it feels boring. My wife said the new Mood Ring single sounds like she’s trying to do a Spice Girls B Side, and I couldn’t agree more.

I hate that this is being touted as a “stoner album”. It is super vanilla and not experimental at all. I love Lorde and smoke my fair amount of the devil’s lettuce, but her going on and on about how this is her “weed album” is cringe. I do agree though, it is a grower. Its hard to follow up Melodrama with something equally as massive, so this was the logical next move.

Yeah, I don't see it as a stoner album, just one that I think is helped by a listen in an undistracted environment with some level of relaxation. When my copy comes in it'll be a glass of red wine for me with screens off.

For a sec I thought you were about to go on a rant about renewable energy...and now that I read it again, technically this *could* also be used as a hot take about solar power (lower case) as long as you take out the part in parentheses

I think it's just this exact style of production is kinda getting oversaturated and it disappoints me that Lorde isn't ahead of her contemporaries like usual

I have listened twice now and I think so far my view is mixed. I love some of these songs a lot. On some of them I 100% get the vibe she is going for. But near the middle of the album, the songs just kinda sound very similar and a bit boring. I am hoping it'll grow on me more. I don't hate it like others do. I am open to it winning me over.

Also, I hate suggesting Antonoff is the creative force behind this album, and give him too much credit...buuuuutttttt he has been involved with a few albums this year already that sound almost identical to Solar Power. And that's a bummer. It makes this album feel less special honestly.

I really like the album on first listen, haven't been a big fan of her previous records overall, though I loved some of her individual songs. Chill, more grown up Lorde is kind of my jam.
