That law got changed a couple of years ago where states can now choose to collect regardless of the business' location. I began paying Virginia sales tax on VMP purchases around late 2019/early 2020.

@NewsFedora Thanks! This is going to take some getting used to after enjoying a few years of a tax free state. Man, I don’t even wanna know how much per year I will end up spending in sales taxes alone. Brutal.

Newbury charge taxes to my state which is why I rarely ever order from them.

My state requires vendors to charge sale tax. I have a shipping address in another state which doesn’t.

@Chucktshoes yeah, it’s an option I wish I had. I’d even use a mail forwarding service for more expensive items but I’m pretty sure that’s illegal.

What’s your point? As a “taxation is theft” (technically it’s extortion but that doesn’t have the same verbal flow) guy I support any and all methods of tax evasion.

From a philosophical/moral stance, agreed. Especially when viewed under a “what are my tax dollars being spent on” lens. As much as I enjoy dabbling in the gray areas, I do try to play by the rules; admittedly, out of fear of consequence.

I get that. Most of my fights against what I find intolerable are meaningless in the grand scheme, but they help me at least *feel* a little freer.
