People are focusing too much on the guitar smash honestly. Calling her lame because she is a "white girl" just trying to get attention and breakthrough mainstream is lame
@Hollywood Very true. While I like to think my dislike of the act is uniform, it is a good opportunity for me to check my own baggage that may be informing my thoughts on this particular instance
I think there should be more smashing not less. It’s great. I’m more offended when artist that wears a guitar around their neck and then barely play it, using it more as a cred building prop than an instrument.
I heard about the Guitar smashing and then watched the episode. I was disappointed that it didn’t actually smash, she just banged it against the monitor. I was hoping for a snapped neck. But that’s probably easier said than done.
@wokeupnew LOL, yeah me and the SO were cheering her on! Hoping she’d snap the neck off or put a hole through the monitor. The sparks she got off were legit, and though it took some effort, the guitar ended up with a big Cookie Monster type bite out of the body by the time she gave up.
Is it sad that I'd probably be more inclined to watch her if she wasn't wearing that stupid skeleton suit for every performance. It bothers me more than it should.
The skeleton costume is theme for this album tour cycle. I dig it. It’s like how ya can can tell what era a Bowie performance without hearing a note just based on his wardrobe.
Instrument smashing is both boring and rock & roll. I'm curious how many acts did a little or a lot of guitar smashing on SNL before it apparently became worthy of comment this weekend.
@GritNGlitter I remember Cobain stabbing an amp with the neck of his guitar and I just watched an old SNL from 1990 where Mike Patton was climbing up the set and literally wedging himself in between the blades of a prop vent fan 10 feet off the ground while the guitar solo to “Epic” was playing.
