I mean, it's David Fincher so it's got style to spare. Vividly cinematic. Excellent acting. Eisenberg as Zuck will freak you the fuck out. Timberlake as Parker is the textbook tech-bro. It's a cautionary tale of too much consolidated power and the destructive pursuit of wealth and information in a capitalist system. And the soundtrack, obviously, is sublime

I just....really like it? If you don't, then I'm not sure how to explain why you should (I mean if you don't like it then there's no reason you need to - it's a movie). I'm sure there are many actual professional critic reviews of the film out there that try to explain what makes it very good that you could seek out.

It had a very similar uneasiness as Uncut Gems did. So a lot of people like that tension. And then of course zuckerberg was coming out of seemingly nowhere to be one of the richest men alive and his face is just so punchable imo that I think people loved finding out that he is indeed a complete asshole.

That said, I agree that it's very overrated but those are some reasons why I think it's well received.

Social Network was a situation where the sum of its parts lead to something unique and great. Not a big fan of Sorkin's writing, but in tandem with Fincher's erratic directing style, the glitchy score from reznor and ross and a squirrelly performance from eisenberg, i think it paints a fantastic portrait of the technological unease amd isolation that would become the norm in the early 2010s.

Just so you don't feel alone, I have never gotten all the critical praise for it myself. It's a perfectly cromulent film, but I don't see why it keeps ending up on "Best of the Decade" lists. The comments on this post have helped me understand the praise a little bit better. So thanks for asking the question!

@wokeupnew sure. Because it's a beautifully shot movie to look at. It's also very well acted, edited, the score is rad, the use of special effects is masterful and nuanced and it's just solid in nearly every category of filmmaking and storytelling. I remember hearing that there was going to be a "Facebook" moving and cringing at the thought and it ended up being incredible.

I need to watch it again . I hated Facebook then, ( still do ) and I got dragged to the Facebook movie when I wanted to see Jackass 2.

Thanks for the input. I should have prefaced my question by mentioning that I don't really like watching movies anymore. I just happened to think about TSN this morning, and was curious to know why other people like it so much. I do remember JT being good in it.

Because it beautifully depicts what a massive greedy, power-hungry, self-serving tool Zuckerberg is.
