ok tbh this is a little bit too far... the entire meaning of their name is removed and it makes no sense to just be called the chicks.. hell even if it was just something like the DC or even a whole new name it just doesn't show the interest of them showing "yes we are country girls from the south but we can play just as much as anyone else"

Bad business move.

@Twentytwo this isn't really cancel culture, they just self censored their name, the same happened with the band viet cong and thats why they are now called preoccupations, which i think was a great choice.. the chicks just have a shitty new name and they should have just chose a new name

Just like with Lady A, was anyone asking them to change names? It just feels so performative and unnecessary

It’s their band so, whatever. Will Oldham has changed his name like a hundred times. The music will remain the same. Most of their fans that would be “offended” by the name change already abandoned them when they criticized W.

I assume this was more about white guilt than “cancel culture” (I hate that this has a name). I don’t think anyone was threatening to boycott the Dixie Chicks over their name.

I can see the Lady A thing, but the Dixie Chicks have always been outspoken left-winged individuals. If anything, it seems weird that they waited this long to change it.

@duke86fan Self censoring or not I just think it is kind of ridiculous. You could also argue that the word chicks is sexist. I realize one of them passed away but do the Dixie Cups need to change their name too.

Dixie Cup is a brand too, so maybe we should start there in understanding its origins. And would ya look at that: Sign the Petition

It's just doing the right thing. Dixie is a term founded in minstrelry and is explicitly about pride for pro-slavery states and time. It isn't a simple mundane reference to southern states The Birth of 'Dixie'

@Melt Face Molly Drop People want change but a 100 million people couldn't even be bothered to vote in 2016.

I think if the Dixie Chick and/or Dixie Cups wanna change their name they should be able to without anyone giving guff about it either way. That being said, I don’t think either should be shamed into changing their names...
