im kinda mixed on it.. its cool that they are respecting everything and making changes to show support against racism. but it also feels weird since the name doesn't seem to be promoting the period more just showing how they were from the south and lived in an older house

It's because of....the implication

So the A...still stands for antebellum? Weird.

I believe they changed it as what @Melt Face Molly Drop said. Some people may not understand why they chose this name for their band and automatically assume it's racist and take offense to it. Ignoring that some may be offended by it is considered tone death in this age.

For sure, I know. But if their fans gave them the nickname "Lady A" because their name was Lady Antebellum, the letter still kinda stands for it. Like, if you're gonna change your name for its racist implication, make it a clean break.

Should of kept the name.

I agree to a certain extent, but eventually it will fade. Like Andrew Jackson Jihad changing their name to AJJ. Sure, someone will ask what it means. Then after answering "nothing", they'll get the actual answer and will be able to use it as an education point. A clean break doesn't provide that opportunity.

Talking about this elsewhere, someone chimed in that the deed on their house lists the style as Antebellum.
