21 - Alia Atreides: Play something by someone wise beyond their years.

Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)

The members of the Clan were all in their early 20s when this album was released. Listening to it they all strike me as being older.

Tom Waits "The Heart of Saturday Night" (1974 Asylum; 1976 Japanese reissue)
Tom Waits released his first LP at the age of 24 and this one at 25. He always sounded like someone that lived through a lot and who's pretty much wise beyond his years.

20 - Gholas: These clones are made from the bodies of the dead. Play something from a band or artist who returned from a long hiatus.

Going in a different direction for today. Got this from someone offloading a bunch of records they didn't want, this is the first spin for me and I'm pretty sure I won't keep this one either. I likely won't make it through a full listen tbh.

My history and knowledge with Lynyrd Skynyrd pretty much begins and ends with whats covered in the Drive~By Truckers Southern Rock Opera. But I do know that the Skynyrd that recorded this live set in 1996 could be considered clones of the bodies of the dead, with only one original member remaining at the time. And with the passing of Gary Rossington in 2023, no original members remain yet they continue to do their thing. I think that qualifies them as Gholas.

Lynyrd Skynyrd ~ Sweet Home Alabama

Is the Playmobil port-a-potty "bigger in the inside"? My mind keeps going to the Tardis when I see it.

Also, Playmobil port-a-potty!!! My german father-in-law like to call them "wandersheisshaus". I approve of that name.

I'll open the door again before I snap the next pic... it's very much a standard port-a-potty. The moment I saw it I was like, "I need this!"

"Wandersheisshaus" is officially becoming part of my vocabulary now.

Dolly Parton - Just Because I’m a Woman

She is a determined and business savvy performer. She writes killer songs and has a voice that even at this young age spoke of a life lived, both good and bad. She has played the dumb blond card to the nth degree and built an formidable empire around her talents.

Dolly released this album when she was just 22 years old. It was her second solo record. She took on topics that wouldn’t have been well received by the country audience and did it with humor, style, and managed to have a hit on her hands.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Long After Dark

I saw the video below on Night Flight one night and it blew my mind. I don’t know how old I was, but I was 9 when this album came out and I don’t ever remember not being a fan of Tom Petty.

This video feels like the spin off/origin story of Tom Petty’s character in Kevin Costner’s lesser post apocalypse bomb, The Postman.

People like to make fun of Waterworld but that movie is goddamn Shakespeare when compared to The Postman.

I kind of liked Waterworld. I’ve the seen The Postman twice and couldn’t tell you shit about it, including that Tom Petty was in it.

I like Waterworld too. It was only a bomb because they went crazy on the budget. Postman sucked, though it has a few unintentionally funny moments, it's not nearly entertaining enough to justify it's 3 hour runtime.

22 - Filmbook: In honor of these audio-visual books, play something that has a good music video to one or more of the songs (and share the video if its available online).

Vampire Weekend - Contra

I always liked the Giving Up the Gun music video and the Jake Gyllenhaal cameo.

My kid has been obsessed with Yellow Submarine lately, and the animation is wonderful.

TIL that Robert Zemeckis pitched a CGI / Motion Capture remake of it in 2009 using the same sort of technology in Polar Express. Thankful that didn't pan out.

I don't have Yellow Submarine on vinyl, but I do have this song that's featured in the movie.
