The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project

I love me some Elvis Costello. This album is good. I think the next two, This Year’s Model and Armed Forces, are great. Elvis writes songs that are as straight forward as Dylan but is a chameleon musically - kind of like Bowie but without all the extra personalities. I don’t remember ever not liking Elvis Costello, but it was really my college years when I dove into his catalogue.

I think it is his singing voice that gets in the way, as I like when people cover his songs.

I like Costello even though I'm not a superfan by any means. I own and enjoy this and a few other of his albums as he is a good songsmith, and I like the urgency in the deliverance on his earlier stuff in particular. I haven't really dug into his discography though, as I tend to get pretty bored every time I try to pick up his later 80s stuff or things like the Bacharach collaboration. But this early punkish/power pop-esque stuff is pretty great.

Brutal Youth (which has the attractions) or any of the Imposters albums may be worth your time.

Cracker is great although I really only know their first two albums. The band formed after Camper Van Beethoven broke up.

Are you familiar with Camper Van Beethoven?

The lead singer of CVB went on to form Cracker. I bet you know two maybe even three songs of of their early 90s classic, Kerosene Hat.

I've only ever known CVB by name (which I love!) I had know idea about this connection until this evening.

Im sure I know some of the songs and probably wondered why everyone hated Uncle Kracker or was confused as to why Kid Rock’s DJ made good music. I can’t explain what is going on with my clearly smoking synapses.

I vaguely remember CVB but couldn’t tell you more than I remember liking their songs when I was a kid. Will probably listen to both now. Like right now as I drift off to slumber I’ll.
