Pre-Order Thread

Yup! The song was, I thought, very catchy, which is what made it feel even grosser when I realized what the lyrics were.
*looks at Spotify*

Sure enough, I have the song liked. Definitely do not remember looking into the song further than the melody though. Usually that means the song was in a show or something and I was passively adding to my list.

It is not even the slow roll, gouge the fans marketing strategy that annoys me. It is the crazy shipping costs. So I, as an avowed sucker and Swiftie lite but hardcore Swiftie dad, have now paid $9+ dollars three times to ship this record. And there is a chance after all these limited variants are released that she will do a one or two day bundle with combined shipping (she did for 1989) but means I have to do the work to buy that and cancel all the individual orders to save the money. Kinda crazy.

Sorry rant over.

Happy Friday everyone.

I'm so glad I'm not a swiftie as she's basically scamming people getting them to buy the album several times all because of a bonus track. I'm sure eventually she will put these bonus tracks on streaming at somepoint. I also doubt that these variants are limited either as they have always become widely available with her last few albums.

You're probably in the minority of rabid Swift fans, but seeing all these variants there's definitely a TON of crazies out there who buy EVERYTHING that she releases even if they don't have a record player, they just need it. New tour merch--need it. New album--need all the variants. New set of Taylor Swift branded coasters--need it. And it's not just a few, it's got to be like thousands of people who will buy anything at the drop of a hat. I can't imagine how much money they're spending on all this stuff.

Sadly this is nothing new. Musicians have been doing this for years. Just with Taylor the amount of $$ involved is equal to the GDP of a medium sized country.

I don’t remember anyone doing what Taylor is doing. This is simple fleecing.

Merch has been a thing. Variants are a thing. But a new variant every week with a new track meaning that the die hards are going to spend more money and I would not be surprised if there are fans who order each and then the bundle as well.

An extra track and a tacky badge

They’re pretty good at cancelling orders. I think you could order this one and the original to save yourself $9 and cancel your first order.

It’s not a scam if you know it’s coming. It’s just an MLM at this point.

There are plenty of artists who release a lot of variants bur you hear people saying i have to collect all variants like they do with taylor swift. People just variant collect because it's taylor. When other artists like black pumas, rhcp, the barbie soundtrack and green day release a lot of variants they say that it's way too many variant it needs to stop. Most artists don't release a bonus track on every variant except for maybe a target exclusive track. It works because she knows that her fans will go broke trying to buy every variant she releases.
