New Music Friday!

While I'm with you there's no clear cut "18 Cig" on this album, Cathedral City is my vote for top track, really fantastic.

Agreed that their sophomore album is more jangly but it's also richer and the sound is more detailed! I think it's better than their debut 🤷
Update: I think overall it might just be a better album. Definitely sounds more detailed. Every song is a banger and flows a little better than Modern Fiction. The second half of Modern Fiction is noticeably less good than the first half. The little interlude track on Modern Fiction is kind of not needed. But Harm's Way is non-stop. "On Our Way To The Rave" is incredibly catchy. That's my favorite so far. I wish they'd include a few more songs to hit the half hour mark, but the short runtime makes it easily repeatable.

My list is the following:

Grandaddy - Blu Wave
Middle Kids - Faith Crisis Pt 1
Friko - Where We've Been, Where We Go From Here
Lime Garden - One More Thing

I'm a massive Grandaddy fan, so even though this is apparently very chill and light on instrumentation, I'll take it. I loved The Middle Kids earliest music, and then fell off a bit, but good lord some of these singles are incredible from forthcoming album, esp Bend, Dramamine, Bootleg Firecracker. Then there is Friko, whose track Where We've Been might my my fav song of '24 so far. Lime Garden seems to have a lot of promise, looking forward to that. Four new albums in a week is my max, so if there is anything else that's awesome I'll get to it another week.

I’m very excited for the new Middle Kids album. I loved their early EP and everything since. Today We’re The Greatest has some gems all over it. The new one sounds like it could be even better. I have tried to stay away from overplaying the singles, but I’ve enjoyed each one. I know they aren’t necessarily a monumental band, but for good solid indie rock I think they are phenomenally consistent. They’ve become just like a go-to band in general for me in that I know when I play them I feel good so I play them a lot.

Also excited to hear more of that Friko. The tracks they’ve released so far are all over the place

I got the new Middle Kids album in the mail today and already really enjoy it. Fair to say, if you don’t think much of the band, this won’t sway you. But if you’re a fan, it delivers a lot of good stuff. Great hooks, more and more energy, and a probably the best flow front to back for any of their three albums. It’s too short though.
