Jazz

I think this was posted in the pre-order thread, but worthwhile here, too. I’m assuming they will have no trouble improving the sound of the original, which I owned and wasn’t terrible but not great either.

As the notes say, these tracks were recorded in 1970 @ the Lighthouse, the same gigs that yielded Henderson’s “If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem!”
i gotta grab this at some point. killer album.

It is now widely available. I pre-ordered a copy.
Any comments on this serie? I haven't bought a single one (so far).
they have been great. i have a few. nice AAA cuts (when possible...some i think were recorded digitally?) and pressings.

Mine shipped from Target yesterday I think. Monk is delayed annoyingly so keep having to approve delays
Per the Craft site, it looks like the scheduled release date was pushed back from March to May 23, so you may have to respond to those emails for a while (unless Target updated the release date in their system and pushed it all the way out to May). Keep it up. I missed one of the delay emails, and they canceled my backorder.

Any online vendors that consistently have 20% to 30% off codes and have the new Original Jazz Classics Vinyl series? Wanna pick a few up, but would rather pay $30 or less per title vs. $40.

If you don't object to buying from Target and can wait for a while, I've grabbed several when Target does one of their B2G1 sales. I've also bought a couple from Apocalypse Vinyl with the PBC discount (which you now have to pay for, but it's not much if you find the discounted link in the PBC thread, and it's worth it if you're placing a big order).

-- Ribot/Ismaily for sure -- both amazing
-- I'm seeing Ganavya later this year. She's amazing, and her last album has jazz components (Alice Coltrane cover; A Love Supreme "cover" (in quotes bc very loose cover) and jazz musicians), but definitely give her a listen b4 committing bc I wouldn't expect it to resemble a "jazz" show
-- El'Zabar/Murray will be great bit somewhat "out," I expect, so that may influence your call (I'd see them for sure)
-- Mary Halvorson is very good but not my style
-- I've listened to music w Jane Ira Bloom but not too familiar, and no famialiarity w live
-- The others I don't know or don't know well enough to comment and look forward to anything others have to say

If Ribot/Ismaily is Ceramic Dog (as opposed to part of Ribot's new album tour), listen first. Heavy stuff but great. Ches Smith is a killer drummer.

I’d go to El’Zabar/Murray first sure, both Legends and a must see I think, they had an album out together a few years ago.

Lots of great stuff to hear on this list. I won't iterate what the others have said, but I've always wanted to hear Mark Ribot live after finding out he recorded heavily with Tom Waits (Rain Dogs has his playing all over it).

Among other accomplishments, Kahil El-Zabar is the founder of the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble. Check out their last release Open Me a Higher Consciousness of Sound and Spirit. Very highly recommended. They will be playing at Pickathon this summer - can't wait to see them play.
