MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

Well that teaches me yet again not to skim read whilst eating lunch. I’d have thought those two were based on cartridges much higher up the AT line at that price! I’d heard more likely to be the lowest of the ART line?
Yes, one would think at that price. If you buy them as a bundle, they have similar price as the AT's. Just thinking out loud. Not that they hook you with a normal price, and when you need a new cartridge you pay premium. The first shot is free.

Hello everyone!
First post here.
I have a new to me Ultradeck purchased from a highly regarded forum member. Very happy so far.
Only had a few hours with the table, starting to familiarize with it.
I have mine on a solid wood block resting on Audioquest isolating feet, at the top of my rack.
The turntable feet are sliding quite a bit on the wood. Just out of curiosity, how do you have yours?

Welcome! I'm glad you registered!

I had the MoFi sitting on top of a walnut cabinet and did not have any (noticeable) issues with sliding. That said, the simplest solution would probably be to just get some Blu-Tack and put a small portion under each foot. It should provide enough stickiness to keep the table in place.

My UltraDeck sits on a IsoAcoustics isolation platform on an old oak side table and like Kvetcha I have no movement at all . I have used bluetack on an arm lifter and make sure your deck is level and only use a small thin bit of the tac material and recheck your level again . Should work like a charm . Welcome to the group .

New question: I have an issue with static. Although I’m careful and ground myself before touching the turntable, and touching it doesn’t result in any static shock, every time I lift a record from the platter I hear loud static noise ifrom the speakers in rapid succession, like a machine gun 😳
I have tiles on concrete on the floor and a small area rug, which does not cover the area in front of the tt where I stand when operating the system.
On the bright side, I hear no static during playback.

I also have this problem in winter and I run a small humidifier in the area which helps . Also make sure your TT is properly grounded to the system as the ground wire can come loose . I also insure I ground myself on something metal before touching the TT.

Are you playing with the dust cover down? I’ve noticed with all my tables that this produces WAY more static than leaving it up or taking it off during playback.

Welcome!

I had sliding with mine. Put rubber washing machine isolators underneath. Solved the sliding.

I think I solved the static issue.
It was coming from the spindle, so I took the platter off and cleaned the bearing thoroughly. When I set up the table I put a tiny drop of lube oil (for tt motors) on top as I did not have any lithium grease around.
After cleaning the oil out those static shocks are gone.
I’ll make sure to keep some grease around for next time.

Also, does the motor need maintenance or lubricant at some point? (I’ll make sure I get a different oil if it does😊)

I’d recommend SuperLube grease instead of lithium grease for the platter bearing. Lithium grease has a tendency to dry out faster. Oil should be reserved for well-type bearings.

Odd place to be the source of static . Was the bearing completely without lubrication?

I actually had recently lubed it with SuperLube! That said, the platter being taken on and off and sitting in a box for a few weeks probably gave it time to dry out a bit.

@renpar61 I’m glad you got it sorted.

Regarding the motor, no recommended maintenance that I’m aware of.

Interesting, I too have had a noticeable uptick in static lately, also recently re-lubed with SuperLube. It gets bad enough after 3-4 sides that simply removing the LP from the platter produces audible snaps. I didn't notice a problem before but I wasn't really paying attention either. Could Superlube be a factor? I just assumed plastic (Delrin platter) on plastic (vinyl, aka 'the record') was the issue. I recently ordered a ground plug & strap to use with my carbon fiber brush, I figured brushing the platter (briefly) every other LP would kill it. As they say, we shall see.

I don’t recall any particular issues with static buildup previously, but I suppose it’s possible. I also haven’t had major issues since I started using a Thunderon brush.

I’ve had static issues with my belt driven turntables, but not with my direct drive (that I can recall). The one belt driven table that had no static issues is the one with an antistatic mat - I guess it works.
