Vinyl Me Please Country

If you got the RSD box set from a few years ago I believe they actually used nice tip-on jackets for those. But yeah the standard releases are flimsy standard stock.

I have the KG self-titled and I thought it sounded better than the VMP. I didn't have the KG Sweet Revenge so I decided to pick up the VMP and it's not bad, but I could see how the KG could be better at bringing the band more forward in the speakers like he did on the S/T. the RKS cuts seem to put more emphasis on the vocals and it's a bit brighter than it should be.
Yeah, I have the RSD Prine box and while I haven’t heard the RKS cut VMP reissue the KPG pressing sounds fantastic.

Unfortunately, the only album that came with a tip-on jacket was his debut. The others 3 were the flimsy print on jackets.

Ah, I knew that one did have a tip-on, didn't know if the others did or not. I wonder if the originals did, in the early 70s some things weren't tip on anymore, and in the late 70s especially tip-ons became more scarce on new releases.

I think George and Conway are absolutely essential to a Country sub but I think of Twitty as more of a singles artist A Grand Tour on the other hand really could use a reissue.

Twitty is one that a greatest hits would actually work well.

An early 80's album of his that plays like a best-of. "Tight Fittin' Jeans," "Red Neckin' Love Makin' Night" and "Over 30 Not Over The Hill" were all singles tracks found on multiple compilations, as was his version of "We Had It All" which, for me, is the definitive version of that song.

Not gonna lie, hard not to be cynical about this one and think that it’s just Storf finishing his collection. Still need some George Jones and a bunch of others. Instead we get a bottom middle tier Willie album as a second selection from him.

Still… Old No 1 next month, eh. And I already have a copy of Old No. 1, but it’s a must grab

I was telling my wife, there are very few artists I would be excited about an album this low in their rankings being an AotM, but Willie is one of them so I happily grabbed it.

Bottom middle tier is a perfect description.

Going to take the plunge on the year again. I figure it’s never going to be any better than $80 off plus 8 free records. Although $355 on any type of subscription gives me pause these days.

I’ll be subbing for a year but after the free records go away. Even if it isn’t as strong as q1, there is usually something I find worthwhile and will be able to swap for.

Same boat here. I’d bet that they’ll do some other promotion after the free record one stops. Not sure what, and have no insider knowledge, but that’s what I’m hoping for.

I’m not convinced you’ll do better than $18 per album with referral and the 8 free albums…but maybe I‘m wrong.

I know one thing they mentioned was that ROTMs will no longer go on sale to non-members until 3 months after release. I also wonder if they will start to cut the number of records they press for some of the tracks. They seem to have found a sweet spot with the rock track where nearly every choice has sold out so far.

I agree and it’s a sweet deal. I just can’t get it because my subscription doesn’t renew until 3/1. I bet a lesser offer will be there though.

They say lots of things. They said that subscriptions would never go above a certain price. Then they said if you were grandfathered you would never see an increase. That no store purchase would ever be more than $25 a record. That no record sold in the store would ever be a future AOTM

If you’re unsure about any of this, all of these were eventually done away with…

Yet we are both subscribers haha. I wouldn’t sign up for a year at full price personally. Don’t love the curation enough. But for $18 a record, sure. They do put out some great quality pressings

At $18, you can even sell the record and make money (or swap for another record, or swap for another record and sell it, or give it to someone else, or give it to someone else who will sell it, endless possibilities).
