To me, one of the greatest indicators that it was a very good year for music in my world is the placement of Black Thought & El Michels Affair at #12, given the fact that I think it's a better album than Black Thought & Danger Mouse, which was my #1 last year.

Are these arranged in a particular way? Like in groups of your favorites? I'm just curious about the breaks?

I finally got to that ØXN album today after way too long a delay. Good lord it is unreal.

It's ranked, 1-49; the breaks are each a left to right line on the chart. I find it easier to reference things at a glance that way is all.

I have a morbid curiousity and want to know if Trump does this and what his list looks like.
Let’s be honest, Obama doesn’t really do this either. There is probably a handful of these tunes he enjoys, the rest he likely chose himself from a vetted list of tracks determined by staffers not to be offensive (to normal people) and hit all the diversity quadrants.

Trump doesn’t enjoy art or culture. His list would be full of either songs about him and his greatness or from culture warrior sycophants that worship at the MAGA alter. I am sure that YouTube dude and Jason Aldeeen would both be on the list for sure.

Given he still thinks he’s a real life Gordon Gecko, and that that’s a good thing, it’s wall to wall 80s yuppie music.

So Phil Collins on repeat.

See, I can’t see him stooping as low as supporting country music regardless. He also has repeatedly shown his true distain for his supporters.

And I don’t know Obama genuinely likes music and I’ve seen him talk at length about what he likes.

Again, Trump doesn’t really like music and would only release a list like this if he thought of it as beneficial to his interests or ego.

I completely agree on Obama, I think he is now well versed on every song on this list dude is studious AF but I don’t think he is spending his free time coming up with a perfectly thought out list of songs that perfectly balances hipness with mass appeal.

See, it'd be the one thing that I would want to do. He is also studious AF and has "hip" friends, so I think he could easily come up with the list himself. I would have my list vetted by my staff, but I would come up with it myself.

It is what we spend our free time doing - maybe not the hipness/mass appeal- but you get what I am saying. Why can't a former world leader do the same?

Yeah maybe. It all just feels a bit too calculated. Like if he had a year where he was super into Trap or if he chose a completely WTF? song then it would feel more authentic but after 12 years of these perfectly curated lists, I have a tough time seeing these lists as a bit performative.

I am sure Obama is hipper than most and there is some overlap but I would be more interested in seeing his Spotify Wrapped than these lists.

So it’s that time of year when through various lists and other sources, I end up discovering stuff that I love that was missed earlier in the year. This album was a qobuzissime.

It blurs the line of Jazz, r&b and Funk. I’m on a third listen today and imagine it will appear in my grid at the end of the week. Olivia Dean is one to keep an eye on.
