Well, the Sol certainly lives up to its reputation. Fiddly, endlessly adjustable, the exact opposite of fire and forget. Unipivots are exactly as unsettling to work with as I’ve heard. That said, I’ve finished aligning a couple cartridges on separate tonearms and am finally ready to do some listening.

The only bit that’s not working properly is that the cue platform isn’t fully descending when the lever is in the lowered position, so I’m having to very gently press it down to fully lower the tonearm. I’ve emailed Schiit already and hopefully they can give me some direction on how best to deal with that.

Would love to see some pics when you have time :)

Thus far, while it doesn’t have the isolation and the heavy, inert platter of the UltraDeck (nor would I expect it to at this price point), this swappable tonearm is pretty awesome. I’ve done some listening with both an old AT-2011e and my Mofi MasterTracker, and the Sol has allowed the character of each cart to shine through nicely.

Weirdly, the cheap and cheerful AT-2011e has a bit more body and punch than the MoFi; I’m having a blast spinning Dire Straits. Planning on mounting the Shure M75 later this week, and the SoundSmith once I have the mental energy to deal with shucking and rejiggering my 20/20 settings.
