MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

When this album came out it was my absolute favorite album. I got kind of burned out on the singles though and haven't really listened to it much since. However, revisiting it I remember why I love everything about this album. I love the big reverby, space rock, psychedelic, unconventional sound to it. The songs catchy. I feel like there's twists and turns during every track. 4.5/5 for me.

PJ Harvey - Dry

Polly's entire debut record brims with intensity and barely suppressed tension. In particular, the droning, disturbing messages powering the likes of "Plants and Rags" and "Happy and Bleeding" are gripping.
It was undeniable that PJ Harvey was a major new talent arriving on the alt-rock and singer/songwriter scene. I don't necessarily view this as one of her absolute greatest accomplishments, but it still intense, moody, and worthwhile listen as a whole.

Rating: 4/5 [Excellent]

MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

Forgot to drop a comment on this one. 5/5 for me. First heard these guys via a mix CD on a car trip to see NOFX. I was pretty heavily in a punk only mindset musically at that time. This group helped blow that stupidity away. They say my brain grew 3 sizes that day. Still listen to this one on the regular.

Side note: also discovered Tony Sly's solo stuff at that show, but that's a story I already told in the AOTM thread for his record.

G Love & Special Sauce - G Love & Special Sauce

I grew up outside of Philly and you couldn't escape this guy on the radio. "Cold Beverage" is forever engrained in me. I don't believe I've ever actually listened to the album though.
