Vinyl Me Please Essentials

My pal's name is Foot Foot (Foot Foot)
He always likes to roam
My pal's name is Foot Foot (Foot Foot)
I never find him home
I go to his house
Knock at his door
People come out and say
Foot Foot don't live here no more
My pal Foot Foot (Foot Foot)
Always likes to roam
My pal Foot Foot (Foot Foot)
Now he has no home
Where will Foot Foot go
What will Foot Foot do
Oh, Foot Foot
I wish I could find you
I've looked here, I've looked there
I've looked everywhere
Oh, Foot Foot
Why can't I find you?
Foot Foot, where can you be?
Foot Foot, why won't you answer me?
Foot Foot, Oh Foot Foot
Wherever you are
I want you to come home with me
I don't have time to roam
I have things to do
I have to go home
Oh, Foot…

Enigmatic lyrics. What is a Foot Foot? A friend? An animal? An abstract concept? It’s a beautiful name anyway and I am sure many of you will now consider it for your first born son (or daughter)

See these lyrics are pure genius, however you can only grasp the wit and social commentary of the lyrics if you watch Richard and Mortimer on Adult Swim. Saying any line from said show will instantly increase your IQ by at least 50 points, depending on the quote. Speaking of the show will gain you the most fame and knowledge one man could ever have.

Pure poetry.

Listening to Top Drawer on Spotify. not coming across as "essential" to me either. Took a look at the "About" section out of curiosity, and it has the following:

"When scanning collector magazines, you'll often come across listings for albums by obscure psychedelic bands such as Top Drawer, commanding ridiculously high prices merely because they're very rare. And in most cases, just because they're very rare doesn't mean you have to pay those prices, or even feel like you're missing much. Top Drawer, a young Kentucky band whose generic bluesy guitar riffing, naively overambitious lyrics, and reliance upon hard rock cliches screamed 1969-1970, made one of those rare-but-not-good records. Which didn't stop it from getting reissued in the 1980s."

I think it's funny that so many of you took the Shaggs guess in here seriously.
Especially me! I was taking it super serious! Did you see how defensive and mean I was getting? 😂🙈

@Murfocakes saying things like “Please be The Shaggs. They are all I want”. And I look up to Murfocakes because I generally like his music taste. And then @Phaneronic, who’s also incredibly smart and has an amazing music taste explained that you need to have a high level of intelligence to appreciate The Shaggs and that their music could not be replicated by even the most talented musicians.

I WAS FREAKING OUT!!! 😵😵😵

Storf says that out of this list:

ESSENTIALS

  • Top Drawer - Solid Oak
  • (Don't tell me to put The Shaggs on here. I refuse lol)
R&HH

  • The Roots - How I Got Over
  • Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot...The Son of Chico Dusty
CLASSICS

  • Andrew Hill - Judgment!
  • Lee Morgan - The Sidewinder
  • Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch!

Only one of them is correct...

I think it's starting to look more likely that we're getting Pilot Talk.

Hmm, if the jazz list is right: I already have the sidewinder and I don’t like out to lunch. I’m cool with an Andrew hill I guess.

I’d be fine with either RHH.

I’m fine with Top Drawer.

Probably Solid Oak. I think those Jazz albums guessed were all given pretty good reissues lately, not sure why they were "top guesses." We had some more credible guesses in here I think.
Yeah not sure why The Sidewinder or Out to Lunch! were even guessed but that Andrew Hill album is plausible though Black Fire did come out this month in the Tone Poet series. I’m hoping one of the guesses is the Hip Hop and we haven’t guessed essentials yet. I’ll probably be happy with anything in Classics this month though.

I mean, Essentials is a rare, crate digger, obscure label release. They could've done a lot worse than Solid Oak, there's some good stuff on there and it's one of those hardcore vinyl collectors' holy grail albums. I think having a blockbuster in RHH and a big name Blue Note jazz release from 1964 will balance out having a deep cut in Essentials.
