Vinyl Storage Recommendation

IKEA’s not so bad if you can go off-hours. Much less of a madhouse.
When I bought my first flat 20 odd years ago I loved going there for a potter about. Now as a 43 year old man the place is the devil. Just full of 20 odd year olds, enthusiastically slaloming about the place talking absolute bollocks while they indiscriminately buy tons of cheap shit before stuffing their faces with hotdogs.

The place is the absolute pits

“When I was a 20-something, IKEA was a great place to go, but now that I’m 43 it feels like the place is just crawling with 20-somethings.” 🤔

Exactly! Except I didn’t film myself raking through the cutlery section in order to show people how Skandi chic I am on the TikTok.

I bought a wardrobe, bought a hotdog and pissed off to the pub afterwards instead

I think it's time for a 5 x 5 Kallax. I am totally out of room.
Here is my current set-up.

This shelf is pretty nice, but it's full and is now sagging. (The pillows and blankets are in there to keep the cats from getting in those spaces.)

Then I have the window seat...both sides underneath have records. Plus these three bins on top.

And this piece from Pottery Barn that my wife had when she moved in. It fits records nicely, but is now full too. (this is the jazz section) This will stay as is.

My holdup is that we need new carpeting, so installing the 5 x 5 before that doesn't make much sense. And I can't get my head around having the carpet done with young crazy claw-ey cats.

Looking past the whole taking away vertical stacking room (and the crazy price) I’m semi-seriously eying this up

I bought an almost identical cabinet from a UK store called The Urban Editions. Absolutely built like a tank. Really nice stuff.

Urban Editions Furniture

I would love that cabinet you posted but looks like they don't ship to Canada.

@nolalady and I made a family trip to the Charlotte IKEA today. We got 2x 5x5 kallax and a custom entertainment center. I've got some assembly to do this weekend!

It was everyone but @nolalady's first IKEA experience. We've officially cleared a relationship hurdle by moving through this one with humor and grace. If their shipping wasn't so insane I am not certain I'd ever go again but it was certainly a bucket list check off.

Did you do the meatballs?
I was gonna ask @nolalady if she was gonna enjoy some meatballs but then I realized that they probably have some sort of bread filler in em which wouldn’t align well with her dietary restrictions.

Then I thought I spend too much time on here if I know you guys dietary restrictions.

Well, having bought a new amp, speakers, snowboard and headphones this week it kinda makes sense to do it now before I turn the tap off. Kinda like the shopping equivalent to Ludicrous Speed.

Those Urban Editions cabinets are well tidy too.

my first trip to Ikea was when we lived in Illinois and we were in our late 20s which felt like something we should have done sooner but the two closest Ikeas were up by Chicago and thus were never super convenient but we needed some cheap furniture and figured we’d give it a shot. So we showed up and walked into the lobby and didn’t fully understand how the store worked, we could see the exit which had the checkout and beyond that the warehouse where the unassembled furniture was stored and also some stairs that had a sign that stated led to the restaurant. We weren’t there to eat so we didn’t want to t the restaurant but also we couldn’t find an entrance to the warehouse without essentially cutting through the exit.

So that is what we did, we entered the exit and boy that was confusing the warehouse was big and mostly just boxes of unassembled furniture, we didn’t know how we were supposed to find anything, we figured that if we found the actual entrance it might make more sense. So we walked all the way to the back of the warehouse and found the display area. That’s when It started to make much more sense but at that point we were on a mission to find the actual entrance so we followed the arrows on the floor all the way back to the entrance which of course was up the stair and just past the restaurant and from there we finally understood how the store worked and were able to get our entertainment center and dresser and go on our way but man we felt dumb and wasted a bunch of of time in the process.

Trust me, I absolutely get that speed of shopping.. It's kinda like.. my THING.
I'm actually kinda glad that cabinet you posted DOESN'T ship to Canada because I'm pretty sure it would be on its way here if it did. I'm at work and at work is the best time to buy mass quantities of things.

IKEA on a Saturday is one of the innermost circles of the inferno. I try, wherever possible, to go at 8pm on a weekday. I do also live 20 minutes around a motorway from it which helps.

Also, if you can make it through an ikea build in one piece we’ll know you’re both solid 😂
We made it through the build!!! This thing is going to last forever.

So the first one we built late last night and once we got the hang of it, the second one came together pretty painlessly. We are in the process of sorting and culling records now.
