Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

So, many of us got this email, right? I gotta say, I've bummed about the delays from these mixups, but it's a bigger disappointment to simply not receive the VMP pressing at all this time around. View attachment 10653
Frankly, sounds like a great deal for you. You are getting another variant of the same record for free.

Damn, that sucks. Looks like these distributors either need to hire more attentive employees or rewrite their packing standards- this is happening way too much. I'm lucky that I received my Weyes Blood VMP variant, but I'm sad for those of you who still haven't.
The Hatchie glow-in-the-dark version has zero indication that it was that variant, leading to a lot of confused buyers since it looked very similar to the milky clear.

This just feels like a botched release all around.

I am so happy VMP chose to exclusively press Mariah Carey’s “Daydream”. My jaw dropped when I actually looked at the VMP email and saw the Mariah Carey exclusive! Absolutely over the moon with the Daydream exclusive. And the colour variant couldn’t have been more better! 👌

VMP must be feeling QUEEN as fuck with all these mid 90’s classic R&B/Hip-Hop albums by iconic divas! We got TLC, then Lil’ Kim and now......MARIAH CAREY! 😍

Who’s next? 🤔

Hmmmm, I smell a Mary J. Blige exclusive coming our way! Maybe we will finally get a reissue of Mary J Blige’s classic “My Life” 🙏

VMP really is striking the iron while it’s hot! 🎯

I cannot wait to spin these exclusives and feel the nostalgia even though I didn’t grow up with any of these albums 😂
I’d like to have “My Life”, “Share My World”, and “Mary” as exclusives soon.

I agree with this- I'm happy to receive a full refund to purchase other records and still receive the album I want. While I'm slightly bummed because the glow-in-the-dark green looked awesome, I think VMP made up for this sad mishap.

Have we reached the point in the Vinyl Bubble where people no longer even hesitate before dropping $34 on a single LP? I mean I get that it's the first ever reissue, but is there anything else special about the packaging, mastering, pressing, etc? It's not even 180g is it?

Brother it's been 15 years since vinyl stormed back. This ain't a bubble.

This is how people that buy physical music buy it now.

Do I want Mariah?

Depends. The older copies I saw on Discogs are being priced at over $400. So if you want Mariah on vinyl, VMP's offering seems like the best way to go. Since it was produced in the mid-90s, it's my guess that there are no original analogue tapes, so there won't ever be some future AAA release. That being said, if you don't wanna buy it, she probably sounds just as good (if not better) on CD or some other digital format.

That's a pretty optimistic assessment for a market that is dominated by (high-prized ) reissues

I mean you can call it optimistic but you can't call it a bubble- vinyl resurgence has been in effect since 2005-2006 and its the only physical format in growth. CD's were virtually based on "high prized reissues" probably moreso.

But this is probably off topic and best suited for another thread.

It’ll definitely have its highs and lows like any physical medium, but we should also remember that there’s a good portion of the world population that still believe rap music is a “fad.”

I know you guys might only be getting the standard edition, but I'm still a little jealous that you're getting a refund and the record well before I'll get the Weyes Blood replacement without a refund.

I took it as meaning the bubble of overpriced reissues selling well. I hope that's a bubble because there is no reason for something like that to cost $34. I don't see how that is a sustainable market price, but we'll see.

Yeah the early Mariah stuff isn't like "audiophile" music, but it certainly sounds more dynamic and open than modern RNB. This album was mastered by Bob Ludwig, and should sound good on any CD copy or even streaming since AFAIK her catalog hasn't had a wave of compressed remasters. I don't buy many CDs anymore but I'm sure as hell not going for this vinyl copy for that price, but I know a lot of Mariah stans will.

I asked to make Mariah my swap to get me to reactivate my membership (figured I'd try) and this is the response I got. Looks like they're starting with 2000 and may press more:

Hi Rob,

Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, we can only send out records that we currently have in stock as records of the month and the Mariah Carey record is a pre-order. We will be pressing at least 2,000 copies so you will likely have a few more days to get your order for that in.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
