Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

There's a reason why that VMP tidbit was deleted from Chance's site. They aren't gonna do Acid Rap as ROTM with it available for sale on Chance's site for the first time as well. Most people would have already bought it from Chance's site. It would make zero sense financially for VMP to do that. It will essentially turn them into Newbury Comics v2.0. It's more realistic that they would do these albums as like a pressing of 1500 in a bundle or sold separately like they did with FlyLo on a different color variant with his new record as RHH.

Them expanding to handle production would be a smart move for them business-wise IMO. Extra money coming in and makes it simpler for artists to put their stuff on vinyl with less worries on their side. I also don't really see it as a fuck up on their part...maybe they shouldn't brand it as VMP if members don't have special access to it, but VMP has given artists like Noname and Saba a bunch of copies of their VMP exclusives to sell on their own sites and it has never been a big deal to VMP members.

Who knows, maybe they will also sell these variants on their site, but Chance says these will be sold exclusively through his website. The color variants are awesome on these so at best, I'd think that VMP might do a different color variant for their store. I'm completely guessing though.

I don't blame international people for not jumping on these at all. That shipping is cray. For me, since I'm no longer a VMP member, I grabbed all three and the shipping wasn't bad at all. Still expensive for 3 albums though...
This is 100% my thinking. If I had more faith in VMP as a company I would have waited. If they had more foresight they and made announcement that allowed for their customer base to plan that would likely allow them to sell more exclusives but if they are producing product for artists beyond their VMP store then it probably doesn’t matter to them either way since they are now in the production/distribution game they are getting paid getting a cut of Chance’s sales.

And I've thought that it made sense for VMP to do that for a long time now ever since RHH started existing and they started branching out. Why wouldn't artists like Frank or Chance or Tyler want to hire VMP to handle all logistics on a vinyl pressing? It eliminates a ton of the stress for artists who don't have a label to do that stuff for them. And VMP gets a nice chunk of change from a cut of sales. And the artist still gets a lot of say in how the vinyl looks and is sold.

I bought from Chance's website because I wanted them and I have no idea what is to come. Could be anything or that's it.
Me too. Too many stories from friends about waiting on buying stuff like Frank Ocean vinyl and missing out. Plus I like supporting Chance directly. It sucks that there are likely some missing tracks due to sampling issues (Windows on 10 day and juice on Acid Rap...) but hopefully they clarify that stuff soon. Maybe they made their way onto the vinyl and just not the streaming.

I feel like this is how we know VMP is involved. No specifics when it comes to the important details fans who are into this medium would care about. If they could clarify if Juice would be on it or not, if they are actively trying or the vinyl weight/details, it would make it easier for me to purchase (which they won’t, because they won’t have a problem selling it as is)

That's not something exclusive to VMP though...it's on most releases these days (especially hip hop releases it seems). Vague release date, no specs on pressing info, no idea of how limited it is, etc. It becomes a collector's item. People don't care as much about the sound quality on these releases or pressing specs. They just want a record that hasn't been on wax before. I mean, hell...look at how many people are always looking for boots of all these Chance releases as well as Kanye, etc. You have people paying $40 for a color bootleg of a vinyl whose source was likely an MP3.

I hate how much this hobby of ours is becoming more and more like the comic book industry for most. (Not a dig at comics, love them, just at how they are handled by the companies)

Edit: Great point with the boots.

Hey, Hey, Hey! I’m officially back to this forum for good! 🙌😈😜😃🙋‍♂️

My gosh, it’s been so controversial lately with everyone’s feelings towards VMP! More forum friends than ever have been dropping their VMP sub........understandably so, after all the issues they’ve been having with the current exclusives.....

But, I have been overseas for a while now and all I can say is that VMP is on 🔥🔥🔥

All my hip hop addicts need to jump on Lil Kim’s Hardcore! That album is a feel-good, hilarious, filthy, fun album! I just love how the first bars on the album from Lil Kim are “I used to be scared of the dick, now I throw lips to the shit, handle it like a real bitch”. 😂🤣👏

And this album feels relevant because Pusha T heavily sampled the track “Drugs” on his latest album. The beats on Lil Kim’s hardcore are buttery smooth, and have a finesse kick to them. Don’t sleep on this exclusive 🤫🙏🙇‍♂️

And OMG, what a ROTM OutKast and Camp Lo were! Damn, they are both 90’s classics and both had tons of originality. And now we are getting Method Man’s Tical!!!! I love Tical, it really has that “Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” chlostrophobic aesthetic on some tracks such as “All I Need” and “Biscuits”. I can’t wait to receive Tical! It’s going to definitely be playing loud in the house with other classic 90’s VMP exclusives like Hardcore, Southernplaylastic and Uptown Saturday Night 💃🕺

The colour pressing for all these recent hip-hop exclusives, including Denzel Curry have been absolutely spot on!👌

I know VMP have been disappointing a lot of people lately, and I haven’t even been home since the first two VMP Anthology vinyl got shipped, but I think their exclusives have been incredible as of lately!

The Hip-Hop ROTM’s since Handsome Boy School Modelling have all been spectacular! 👏😁🌈

You were missed

It's both a great time and an awful time to be a vinyl fan. Prices have steadily increased but there are lots of cool companies putting out really quality products. Just have to navigate which ones are doing it right and which are taking advantage of the vinyl boom.

Coloring Book really does call back to the days of Kanye West’s “College Dropout”, Jill Scott’s “Beautifully Human” and Common’s “Be”, so I would really love to have that record on vinyl! Such positively sunny, feel-good vibes! It really does have a family reunion + good food aesthetic!

Fun fact: When Chance was making Coloring Book he was also "talking about starting Good Ass Job" with Kanye finally (College Dropout> Late Registration> Graduation then> Good Ass Job which never came), but Life Of Pablo took up all the time, which is why Chance says on Ultralight Beam "I met Kanye West I'm Never Going to hell, he said Let's do a Good Ass Job with Chance 3" and then 3 months later a bunch of tracks especially the intro to Coloring Book sounded so Kanye-esque

Is it possible he has a new album coming out? That might be the ROTM with the others as exclusives.
This was exactly my hot take(y). I think if VMP helped Chance with the mixtapes that they would in return get the exclusive for the debut album. And then the leftovers of the mixtapes that didn't sell would go back to VMP to bundle.

I wished my Unofficial “Acid Rap” sounded like it was sourced from an MP3. Mine sounds like it was sourced from a transistor radio playing in a submarine. This album is why I won’t ever buy an Unofficial release on wax (if available via other media) again. It sucks so bad it makes me angry to listen to it.

People on reddit have been tagging Storf and asking but he has been MIA (shocking). My guess is they don't want to confirm or deny right now.

Agreed, they didn't have it removed just so they could confirm to people asking. I'm sure they don't want to blow their plans until they are scheduled to communicate them.

Chance has announced & been working on a new album for a while now, if you look on the website where the records are there’s a pre order up for it, very possible that is indeed an upcoming ROTM

Yea--it is supposed to be released this month I believe. Would make sense for that to be ROTM and then sell a bundle of the others as a diff limited variant.

I personally really wouldn’t care if VMP are doing color variants on these Chance albums - how in the hell could ANYONE look at the Acid Rap vinyl up for sale on Chance’s website and go “Hmm, I hope an even cooler variant is coming”? Just saying, this seems pretty hard to top:

Mmmmm everything you said is so true actually! It really does look like Chance The Rapper’s new album will be a R&HH ROTM + mixtape bundle!

Yeah, shipping costs are what are stopping me from ordering. If it was Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’, ‘ultra, nostalgia’ & ‘Channel Orange’, I wouldn’t hesitate spending around US$60 per record, but it’s not worth it for me for any Chance The Rapper album as I’m not ‘massive’ fans of any of the albums (like none of them are a 9/10 or 10/10 for me).

But yeah, it really does make sense for artists to just get VMP to handle their record getting pressed and then they can sell it through their site themselves because it’s so convenient and VMP usually does a great job with exclusive pressings.
