The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

Yes it can access services such as Tidal and Spotify Connect as well as Qobus and it can steam at up to 24-bit/192kHz from networked servers. As for the app it's the Play-Fi app and its apparently intuitive but that's all I know.

From what I gather googling, their website is shit and ambiguous which gives me even less confidence, it has Spotify connect but not Tidal Connect. For Tidal/Qobuz etc you have to access them through the Play-Fi app. Given the hammering that app seems to get from reviewers I would be even less likely again to buy into that eco-system…

I echo @Joe Mac and @JohnnyCashFan

I love my Node 2i. With the Audiolab, you will need to rely on their software as they are not Roon ready (I could be wrong). While Roon is an additional expense, if you have a large local digital collection as well as going the Tidal route it really makes the Bluesound a wonderful streamer.

I just don't know if I'm able to find a Node 2i as they appear to be sold out everywhere 😕

The Node (as it is called now) is available for $649 Canadian. Possibly your buddy might be able to get it for you less than retail.

There isn't a ton of margin on those but he could do $599 + tax which is better than a kick in the pants 😉 Besides at that price point, I would imagine the options are limited to begin with.

I went with black partly because I was afraid the white would show up fingerprints. But the finish is matte so there should be no worries. And unless you are @Mather, you will hardly ever touch it.

And now you are leaning towards the Node, we can start brow beating you about how amazing Roon is

Id go with white. But my dislike of black boxes is well known 😂

My sonos playbase is matte white like that and so long as you dust it as normal it doesn’t look any dirtier than anything else.
