Some afternoon spins before going out for some country/rockabilly tonight with the Eskimo Brothers. Sad to be missing Nicole Atkins tonight, but they went to a good cause .
Neil Young - Greatest Hits (damn this sounds good)
Thad Jones & Mel Lewis Orchestra - Live At Jazz Jantar (Poljazz, 1978 First Promo Club Special Edition - Signed)
This is such a blinder of a live session. It would have been amazing to be in the audience this night. This copy has the added bonus of being signed by both Thad Jones and Mel Lewis.
Grabbed this a while back on a deal and just got around to spinning it. Sounds far better on vinyl than digital. Might actually spin this more than anticipated!
I was shocked by the clarity and quality of this BGP pressing tonight: Art Blakey - āBuhaniaā
The jacket notes that this was ādirect metal mastered from digital tapesā. After looking up
the process on Wikipedia, I could see why the sound was so good. This could easily ascend to near the top of my current favorites! Will be looking up more from BGP Records!
Just finished LP2 of Ron Carter for Sundayās jazz starter. Earlier, I was streaming GA-20 on this morningās jog. Time to take the vinyl for a spin. Looking and sounding good so far.
Count Basie - The Atomic Mr. Basie (Columbia, 1958 First UK Mono Pressing)
Art Farmer Tentet - Brass Shout (United Artists Records, Japanese King White Label Sample/Test Pressing)
Im a day late as usual but yesterday, 21st August, would have been the birthdays of Art Farmer and Count Basie. I have just finished listening to Basie's booming 'Atomic Mr Basie' along with Art Farmer's 'Brass Shout'. This copy of Brass Shout is quite cool as it's a white-label Japanese King sample/test pressing. The King sleeve is super cool IMO.
