Pre-Order Thread

WOD appeared in one of the locals (tower records) on blue for €45 which is €5 cheaper than all the online places. They’re not my favourite and are usually the most expensive in town so hoping the store I prefer puts the pre order up tomorrow for a euro or two less again. Still a stupid price but can’t grumble too much at cheaper!
Jpc has the blu for 46.99€ and Black for 36.99. So it might be worth looking out for the Black at your local as well

I have ordered for €44,99 for the blue at my local which is way over what it’s worth but better than the online cost plus delivery. The black was €42.99 so for €2 not really a difference. Still think that anything over €35 really is gouging for a standard new release 2LP.

I’m not sure what happened these last few weeks/months/years, but I finally feel burned out on this goofy hobby that just gets more and more expensive and silly every day. I think I’m out, you guys
Yeah, it’s tough to get excited about the same records being reissued ad nauseam while the majority of new releases you have to pre-order 8 months in advance pay $40 (plus shipping) to have it arrived warped, or with seam splits. I have found myself buying much more stuff locally since my LRS opened back up. It has helped me spend less and part of the fun for me when I started collecting was digging through stacks at record stores. I’ve also started collecting cassettes because a good portion of those can be had for under a couple bucks.

Regardless if you decide to keep collecting, I hope you stay around N&G. You are one of the members on here who’s taste aligns with mine the most. You’ve turned me one to some great music and it would be a bummer to lose ya.

I normally check this thread at least 10 times a day to see what’s what. This year has been pretty slow for me regarding pre orders. There’s a lot music in here that I’ve never heard of and that makes my wallet happy. I’m planning and hoping to do a nice purge of the collection soon. After that I’d like to be more selective on what I buy on vinyl. I’m in no way going to start buying cassettes, but I could see myself shifting back to CDs a little more. Vinyl is definitely the more fun format, but in the end it’s about the music.

This is an informative video.

Definitely more expensive, and more silly, by the day, as this very thread makes as clear as still water. BUT I personally believe it would be a shame to give up on vinyl altogether. Truth is there still are a ton of records (many of them used) available at locals, across the country and (I assume) world, at prices that are much more reasonable than those we are seeing tied to current releases with FOMO release/marketing strategies. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water! ;)

Same here; storage space has become limited so I have stopped buying LPs blind or based on a song I listened to and will try to focus my collection on stuff I know I want, like completing my Radiohead/Tom Waits/Joni Mitchell collections or current artists I'm digging, etc.

As far as CDs, we don't even have a player anymore. Between my wife and I we have two large totes of CDs and neither of our cars or our house has something to play them on. We don't have a DVD player either, or a game system, and we only own one TV and it's currently broken, so we are probably in the minority on household electronics.

I’ve never purged my music before. I have CDs and cassettes that I haven’t listened to in 20+ years, but I just couldn’t allow myself to get rid of any of them. I recently started to sell some of my cassettes and have even considered getting rid of them all.

We have 4 shelving units for vinyl. Full, they will max out at around 1,600. That’s where I
want to keep it at. No more but I’m ok with less. Between my wife and I we probably have about 1,000 CDs with a functioning player. My car has a CD player but I’ve used it maybe 5 times…lol. Once I’m done with the tapes, I’ll probably go through the CDs next.
