New Music Friday!

Today and 7/30 are the two big release days on my calendar so far this year. Can't wait to check out Jorja Smith, The Black Keys, and St. Vincent! I had on my list that there was a new True Loves album today too, but I can't seem to find it yet. Happy listening!

Edit: and how could I forget J. Cole!

Yes, Yes, I'm calling it now. July 30th should be a day that everyone celebrates this year....

it might also be my birthday, so offerings should be made....

Listening to the last release on my radar list now. Lots of fun stuff this week, and heaps of it from artists I've never heard before. Most of it won't make any year-end lists for me, but nothing was extremely disappointing either.

Unsurprisingly to me, Sons of Kemet and Jorja Smith were the big highlights of the week - Black to the Future being a highlight of the year too.

Biggest surprise for me this week was how much I liked the new St. Vincent album as I've never really been much of a fan before this, but the lead single really landed with me when it dropped so I've been looking forward to the full release.

Funnest new discovery this week was Fightmilk. Not AOTY material for me by any means, but I found it really fun listen that I'm sure I'll revisit again.

Sons of Kemet's Black to the Future and St. Vincent's Daddy's Home are my two favorite releases from this past Friday, and in fact both could very easily end up on my AOTY list.

I’M OBSESSED WITH ST VINCENT’s DADDY’s HOME!!! 👏🕰🎞🚬🧸😍💎👌

Daddy’s Home is such a warm, hazy, psychedelic, dreamy, lazy yet twisted, dirty, woozy and gloomy album that has beautiful 70’s psychedelic and soulful production and astonishing poetic and cinematic lyrics! I love the gospel vocals that are in half the songs, and I love how refreshing every song sounds despite feeling consistently warm, nostalgic, lavish yet warped!

Daddy’s Home is most definitely my favourite album of the year, along with Pharoahe Sanders & Floating Points “Promises”! ♥️♥️

I can’t wait to receive both albums next month as they are both sure to keep me warm during the Winter! ♥️

Looks like another exciting week ahead!

Another late addition for me!

The Tragically Hip just announced a new release for tomorrow: Saskadelphia is a collection of previously unreleased Road Apples era songs.

(Saskadelphia was the working title for Road Apples but the label deemed it "too Canadian.")

Thanks for the reminder about the new Roddy Woomble album!

Lula Wiles - Shame and Sedition is out tomorrow. They've been one of my favorite local Americana groups for a few years and are taking a very hard political turn with this album. None of their songs have really caught me this time but some folks are very into this based on early reviews and feedback. May be worth a listen.
