Definitive Audiophile pressings

Really looking forward to those Bill Evans '64 and '65, missing both those titles. And Coltrane Crescent.

The Gil Evans and Ray Charles are up for preorder already on Roughtrade and Amazon. Likely elsewhere as well. Amazon is showing the Gil Evans at the usual $26.99 and Ray at $29.99.

Also, why do you all refer to KG as Boom Boom?

I thought about skipping those 2 initially, the cd versions I have are pretty good (as is the complete Vanguard Sessions) but it's hard to resist Evans and there very good albums.

At this point in the game, it seems like if you skip any new vinyl release, it'll be immediately gobbled up and you'll either have to pay two to four times the list price on the secondary markets, wait 6 months for a possible repress, or just live happily with your CDs (and avoid this whole fiasco). At least that is what it seems like with recent jazz releases. I know Blue Note has mentioned they were going to try to keep their stuff in print, but I am uncertain whether Acoustic Sounds will be doing the same thing.

For Lou Reed fans... I finally got around to spinning the RSD live at Tully Hall (1973) release and it.... Sounds pretty great? The set starts of a little slow with a performance of white light white heat where Lou sounds just worn out and a little bored. By the middle of side one though (2LP) Lou and the band have leaned inti Waiting for the Man and a playing with real energy.

This is Lou Reed fronting a bar band -- different, tighter in tone with crisp guitar lines. There is something off about the drums -- though they are recorded great, his timing seems off -- but it's a good record.

Vinyl had a slight wave warp. It's ?maroon? and id guess over 140 but under 180. Quiet and clean of clicks

Still pretty cheap on Discogs. I'm really happy I bought it.

Acoustic Sounds vault has the KG/SH Saxophone Colossus OJC up for $15 plus shipping. Highly recommended AAA pressing, sounds awesome for really cheap. I prefer it to the recent KG/Prestige pressing:

I was surprised that this one hadn't sold yet. I have the VMP one which I believe is from the same plates and it sounds great.

I’m in it for the long game. The represses typically come, just have to be patient.

This is an unbelievable lineup. I read the Ashley Kahn book about Impulse! three years ago and tried to hunt down lots of these titles then and many were hard to find, poorly remastered, and/or expensive. So it's great they are getting a wide-release, high quality reissue at a reasonable price so lots of folks can enjoy this music.

PS It was nice knowing you VMP Classics.
