Did I expect Mortal Kombat to be a good movie? No. But I also didn't expect it to be as bad as it was. The fights didn't even save this movie. They were slow and not at all entertaining. The script felt like a middle schoolers fanfic. They awkwardly forced every catch phrase they could, it was horrible.

So was it an improvement from the original? Because this makes it seem so

There's a preshow that started at 6:30 EST that combined Rel Howrey interviewing celebs with all of the best song performances. The official show starts at 8 EST.

They eventually got to talking to a few people....but I don't think they tracked down anyone for the first half hour.

For a second when he popped on screen I thought to myself “Man, David Duchovny really let himself go during covid”

then once I realized who it actually was my thought change to “Man, Trent Reznor looks weird in a suit”.

I watched Sweeney Todd for the first time. I like Tim Burton but generally am not a fan of movies that come from musicals because I don't really like singing in movies.
All I could think of at the end was if they didn't have to sing, he would have gotten the job taken care of much sooner. And would have prevented some other unfortunate outcomes.

Can't argue with any of the winners so far (happy The Father was able to take home screenplay!) but pretty sus about Stephen Soderberg's choice to not use clips at this year's ceremony. I get that it makes it more of a human element, and celebration of the person more than the film, but it's not very entertaining.
