VMP is becoming a status thing, where only certain people can afford their shit...
What's the status? I don't know what kind of music I like, so I let some company curate it for me and then I happily overpay for GZ pressings.VMP is becoming a status thing, where only certain people can afford their shit...
Agreed. It’s getting hypebeasted.VMP is becoming a status thing, where only certain people can afford their shit...
Brand. That’s it. Same as fashion and art. You’re buying a name. What's the status? I don't know what kind of music I like, so I let some company curate it for me and then I happily overpay for GZ pressings.

Completely and its madness.Brand. That’s it. Same as fashion and art. You’re buying a name.
Only for them to be exact replicated by the opportunist on eBay. (I expect your golden Kanye shirts to soon come with an NFT attached)People all waiting in line to pay $150 for a Gildan t-shirt at a Kanye popup store (this happens in Toronto).
The line to the Supreme store in NYC would wrap around the block so some weirdos could buy a Supreme branded BRICK.And only in Toronto!
Never underestimate Toronto's ability to line up at a moment's notice for overpriced mediocre shit. I can't wait for the line ups when Chick Fil A opens. People vowing to never eat there based on morals slipping into line under the cover of masks. And only in Toronto!
They’re purposefully mocking the stupidity of their buyers and their buyers eat it up because they feel like their in on the joke, it’s hilarious, reminds me of the whole Mr. Brainwash thing.Completely and its madness.
Supreme sold a brick with their name on it and it currently sells for £150+. A brick.
For the price difference between the Matador version and the VMP variant you could easily buy a second album, or maybe two. Would I rather have 2 to 3 records for $50 or one overpriced VMP variant for $50?
I wonder what's stopping them for doing this:
$29USD for the album...still the most expensive option.
Free shipping for US members bundled with their ROTM.
+$5USD for international members to be included with their ROTM.
I would be 100% fine doing this. $34USD is much more in my comfort zone than $46. I just feel like they're charging flipper pricing now because they absolutely can.
So what you're saying is there's no earthy reason to do that again except pure unadulterated greed. This is actually how VMP used to do it. They used to charge International members $5 shipping for the first album they purchased in the store and then $3 for any additional albums. Looked like this:

I REALLY need stores to open so I can sell a bajillion things...They've just built in the cost of shipping. I wish it was more transparent, but buyers are more likely to buy if they don't see costs added after the fact. It's pretty simple marketing psychology. And, for sure, it allows them to price creep.
As for the higher prices...for VMP and records in general, I have just been buying less. Curate, not accumulate.
This all day. This was my mantra when I first started buying records five years ago. I went a little nuts in 2020 and told myself it was retail therapy to help me get through the pandemic, but I am starting to cut back on buying and selling stuff I don't listen to.Curate, not accumulate
