The Blue Note Thread

Hey would anyone know where I could still find a copy of the BN Classic - Speak no Evil for retail? Since it was widely released I thought I could get by without preordering and just pick it up at my local, but now can't find it in stock anywhere.

I was luckily able to find a copy of Sidewinder, and thankfully preordered Somethin Else. I already had the AP45 version of both, but I have to say this new version of Something Else is friggin amazing. I wonder why BN didn't go with Tone Poet-level packaging for these releases and just charge a little more, I guess they didn't want to compete with themselves on that series.

The Blue Note website has SNE for $24.98

Apparently the agreed with Music Matters Jazz to not compete with them rather.

Here’s what Somethin’ Else would look like (from SRX jacket).

I'm cool with the non-gatefold jacket but the paper sleeves are terrible. After I took Somethin' Else out of the sleeve and set it on the turntable, I had pops coming through my system without the needle even being queued up.
They are SUPER staticky. The 80s had the same problem and they were briefly using better inners. But back to the cheapo paper sleeves.

The weird thing is with the BN80 releases they started with the paper sleeves then seemed to upgrade to lined sleeves towards the end. Crazy they would go back to the paper with the classics.

Thanks!! Seriously looked there the other day and it wasn't available or so I thought. I see Sidewinder is also available to order again so maybe updated recently.

YES it was ridiculous how much effort it took to get the record out. Like they vacuum packed it in the paper sleeve somehow lol

My Face To Face TP came with a polo sleeve, much less noise and cleaning issues with this that the CL Into Somethin', which is ok now after a few cleanings.
Yeah, all the TPs are pressed at RTI and come in their clear poly sleeves. The BN80s and Classics are pressed at Optimal and sometimes you get polylined paper sleeves, sometimes they're just paper sleeves. Seems like after April it'll all be poly sleeves across the board. So no more static or paper dust issues.

Mosaic is selling actual photos (vs prints) from a 1995 Blue Note book. Details here: https//www.mosaicrecordsimages.com/shop/collectors-items

I bought 3, Lee Morgan, Bobby Timmons, and Willette. The photos are on fine shape, though disappointingly have some slight crimps and signs that they weren't stored perfectly. I'll likely send a note as I think they should have been more upfront about it -as a "fine art" sale... but I think 20210216_134756.jpg20210216_134807.jpgthey are beautiful and I'm happy to own them.

Some day in the future, when I have a bit more disposable income, I really wanna buy a few Francis Wolff Blue Note photos to hang on my wall. All those photographs are always so stunning.

The book that these images are in is great. It's out of print, but can be picked up on eBay for not too much. Love mine.

Mosaic and Morrison Hotel Gallery aren't the only authorized licensed sellers of Francis Wolff photos. They're just the most expensive. YellowKorner gallery sells licensed Wolff prints at lower prices.

You can see the Francis Wolff prints in various sizes here --> Art photographs · FRANCIS WOLFF · Photographer · YellowKorner

As an added tip, YellowKorner usually has sales every few weeks, so some of these prints can dip down to under $100. Even if you don't buy now, check them frequently to catch their sales. You won't find licensed, authorized prints of Francis Wolff at a lower price anywhere. What is there at the moment is what is left. They had a lot more years ago.

Thanks! I've never been able to tell with YellowKorner if they are digital prints or photographs from the negative?
