What's Spinning

I listened to this entire box set over the last two nights.

This was Lou's last project before he checked out. He oversaw all aspects of mixing / mastering. All of these sound really great and the pressings are clean and quiet.

From a remix standpoint, these three leave the greatest impression - Coney Island Baby, Berlin and The Blue Mask.

Berlin - what a quietly devastating record. You can smell and taste the despair.

You can nab this right now for around $60 with the Target cancellation gadget play.

My collection #1057-1058

Esbjörn Svensson Trio - Plays Monk
Coldplay - Parachutes

EST became known for playing jazz almost like a rock band, but this is much more classical jazz and fantastic. Plus, Coldplay's debut. I think I've said before that I saw them play the weirdest double-header I've ever seen where they supported the drum n bass of Roni Size in Paris around the time this came out. Weirder, they were at university in London at the same time I was so we had friends, even girlfriends in common. I always remember one ex telling me how awkward Chris Martin was at chatting her up.
