Tomorrow Comes Today (The Gorillaz Thread)

For those that ordered the Deluxe from Easy Street, be on the lookout for this cancellation e-mail

We were just informed by the company that handles our web content, Broadtime, that they were given incorrect information on the various packages available for the new Gorillaz album, especially the Deluxe version, the price of

which they were told would be $29.98. However today they have been told that the correct price for this item is actually $79.98.

Which means we are unable to process the order at the original price and have to cancel your order. Your card was never charged, so we won’t need to issue a refund.

We would like to offer you our sincere apologies about this mistake. If you decide to re-order the Gorillaz LP with us (regular or deluxe) we are offering a 10% discount on that item.

Nope mine got cancelled : I’m opting for orange but have deluxe in watch in amazon to see if it drops
Part of me wishes with all the color variants they've got for the standard, that the deluxe wasn't just black. I really liked the light blue they did for the deluxe of The Now Now. Also there has been a big missed opportunity for a color variant - in this promotional art, they are literally standing on a red vinyl record.

I believe "The Pink Phantom" has overtaken "Pac-Man" as my favorite Song Machine track... it's so good 🥺

I like it okay. My wife didn't like it at all. I'm not sure what my favorite song is so far. Probably Beck but that hasn't been officially released.

I'm sure you probably know this, but the one with Beck is the next one set to be released, idk if the video will come out before the full album does tho

ok, but in a more serious note, i think this album (if we even want to call it that, since this is supposed to be a compilation) has a very unique circumstance in that it sounds good for how cohesive it sounds and the overall flow of all the tracks goes smoothly. like, i went into this completely blind, expecting something akin to Humanz, where there were some strong ideas (like “andromeda” and that one track with pusha), and some terrible ones (“sex murder party”) all mixed and mashed into one messy album. thankfully, that doesnt happen here, even if albarn is literally doing the exact same thing he did on humanz on trying to get the best out of his collaborations.

another thing i had in mind is that i feel that gorillaz reached a peak in their discography with demon days and plastic beach. and i feel albarn might be aware of this notion too, by purposefully choosing to craft songs individually as opposed to making concept albums. i personally dont mind this approach bc it shows that albarn is willing to move on to other things sonically as opposed to trying to recreate that DD/PB spark that might have already burned out.
so yea, i dont think song machine reaches the heights of dd and pb, but at least in the context of gorillaz in 2020, song machine holds promise that albarn can still write decent songs with others, which is a good thing of itself

I think Song Machine is very much being seen by a lot of fans as a better version of what was being attempted on Humanz. I personally have always seen Gorillaz as a platform for Damon to do whatever the hell he wants, bring on whoever he wants and whatever happens happens. It's a project that's built on collaboration, but on Humanz, I think the collaborative aspect just became too overbearing. Song Machine is a great balance: every track (on the standard edition at least) uses their features in great ways that add to the mood of the track without becoming too obtrusive or making it not feel like a Gorillaz song. Even "Friday 13th" which doesn't feature Damon/2D vocals until close to the end, still manages to give off Gorillaz vibes with the wonky production. It's like they've taken the parts of Humanz and The Now Now that worked and put them in a blender and the results were glorious.

I think it also just has to do with how streaming has impacted how we listen to music and stuff in the 2010s/2020. I think it's a smart move to do this episodic single release idea, especially with the advertisement of it being a new collaboration every episode. It's basically taking the criticism everyone had with Humanz and using it as the selling point. The difference is of course Damon and company seems to have taken the criticism and learned from it to use the features a lot more wisely. But times are changing and I think Damon is good at adapting to shifts in the industry for the most part, so he probably realizes that releasing new music like this is a much more effective way to be able to consistently get content to the fans.
