The Good Ol' Grateful Thread

I was tempted to send them a fairly lengthy email to try to get to the bottom of it but, to be honest, I'm not entirely sure they'll know the answers. As it is I'm kicking 2 ideas about either a new AB, the 2011 WMD, Nassau, Three From the Vault and Buffalo 77 (despite it looking like they've split Help on the Way/ Slipknot/ Franklin's Tower across 2 sides) or the VMP set which would mean I was short Europe 72, without a net and Terrapin station., I'm subbing Warfield for Reckoning here
So Europe '72 was available for a hot minute on Amazon for retail last week, so I think there are more of those coming (i.e. I don't think Rhino is going to keep it OOP). If I am being honest, Terrapin Station isn't really all that good (it's in competition with Built to Last for worst Studio GD), so I would make that pretty much a last priority.

I like your first idea better to be honest. I'd suggest One From The Vault versus Three From The Vault if they are equally available. And One From The Vault gets you a killer Help>Slip>Franklin's, so you could go Cornell with the 77 pick instead of Buffalo.

I hope they repress Europe '72 as I still don't have a copy. Probably the most glaring hole in my GD vinyl collection.

Also, agree on Terrapin Station, and yet the title track is one of my favorite GD songs ever.

Terrapin sounds so much better live in my opinion. Though I can't think of any in-print vinyl set that features a live version (and other than Dick's 3 and the Capitol RSD show from a few years back, I can't think of any live Terrapin on vinyl).

The 50th WMD sounds great, as has been stated, the last Europe 72 cut from 2011 sounds great and was popping up on retail sites last week, Terrapin is completely unnecessary in its studio form, and Without a Net has to be forthcoming because the Dead leave no money on the table at this point.

While your FOMO may be strong, if you wait this out for a few more months, you can probably piece this together, save a couple hundred bucks, and never have to hear Storf try to talk about Eyes of the World like he heard it before 2018...

This has always been my least favorite studio dead. I like Terrapin though, horns and an upbeat groove is up my alley. Can’t believe all the dislike for it in here, I had no idea.

this album is very much my shit but I get it. The cover on its own is pretty much a wtf turnoff but I love it.

i don't care about anything pre-WMD, so those studio albums are at the bottom for me. primal Dead is just not my thing at all...

The 2003 Live\ Dead sounds great too. In honesty I'm not sure how much more they can milk out of the existing Rhino's for AB and Wake the Flood (Workingman's Dead too for that matter) and from what's been said on here Europe 72. A weird point in time which has given a bit more time to spin more records is definitely the wrong time for Europe 72 to become scarce.

I think Go To Heaven is underrated. I definitely like it more than Terrapin or Built to Last. But that cover is all cheese.

Not personally a fan of anything 80's and beyond with the full band but I respect the different takes. That's something I've always liked about them, the fanbase has a very eclectic range of taste and the band finds a way to fit for everyone.

Save Your Face is a blog where a dude compiles "mixtapes" -- sometimes thematic ("here's all the dark stars from the last tour", "here's beatles songs the dead did"), sometimes chronologic ("the best of the last tour") etc. You may dig some of the latter-day mixes that get the best of the latter days (admittedly you were talking about studio not live jams, but still)

Hadn't heard of this, thanks!
