Jazz

Thanks for your comments, its hugely appreciated and all helps to make a decision!

I think I'm gonna go for it. Guessing with postage and import fees it's gonna be a good chunk more, but it's been a frustrating album to get a good pressing of and sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do 😁

What is the album that's driving the decision?

Wasn't aware of that site, thanks for mentioning (y)

Grant Green Idle Moments.
Not sure how any of this works between countries, but you might also look at jpc in Germany. I know their shipping to the US is super-reasonable. (But I don't know if this is the version of the album you're looking for.)

EDIT: My bad. Looking at the AP site, I see it's probably the 45RPM pressing you're looking at, which won't work for jpc. Sorry

I think the site is definitely worth a look, I've not used them but they seem to have some good stuff. I think that particular listing is from DOL. I don't actually own any DOL records, but they often get poor, or mixed reviews.

I'll keep that website in mind, thanks for mentioning it! I've got that DOL version already and it's a little noisy. I think DOL do presses from digital although I've a copy of In The Wee Small Hours from them which sounds really good

Yeah Dol is a grey market label (I think they are based in Russia). They essentially unofficially release albums using digital sources.

Finally some good jazz made in France. Read the reviews at the bottom of the page.

Ordered a copy, but I did hesitate. It sounds good but the shipping to the UK is more than the cost of the record. I wonder if this is going to be a bigger problem now Brexit is imminent :(

Shipping a parcel under 1kg is around 16/17€ when using national post and it already was before Covid and Brexit. Things might get worst though, I hope it won't because I have been buying tons of UK jazz records and don't want to feed Boris with taxes and fees.

I don't get many records from France, but generally get a few at time if I do. I think it's a bit cheaper from a few of the other EU countries.

Shipping costs are bound to go up, but hope it's not too noticeable.

Both Nina Simone Verve Acoustic Sounds series titles are up for pre-order on Amazon.

Speaking of Nina Simone, amazon warehouse seems to have one more "like new" copy of the Here Comes the Sun reissue for $11.51:

My favourite recently from France was the guy who shipped me a 7 for €1.51 to Norway. He said it was a book (I guess there are subsidised rates for them) and included a random page from sports newspaper L'Equipe in the parcel to show there was reading material in there! It foxed me for about 20 seconds as to why it was there before I understood!
