Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Ha I never put 2 and 2 together that he was her brother. She even has a song about him called Allie, all about him getting high in his room all day.
Her whole family is pretty impressive. Alfie's her brother ( Theon Greyjoy - Game Of Thrones), her dad is Keith Allen (he was in a London punk band called The Atoms, which opened for The Clash. Hes more well known for his acting), her mum is Alison Owen (producer for films including Shawn Of The Dead) and her uncle is Kevin Allen (British film director, producer and actor).

Family reunions must be great!

I thought this might be one you liked @NathanRicaud :ROFLMAO:

I streamed it again this morning and its just such an uplifiting album, really energetic!
Bamboo Banga is one of my favourite starts to an album ever! I think I can only name a few starts to an album I prefer more - Daft Punk's One More Time comes to mind! I just how instrumentally layered Bamboo Banga is! The shuffling, skipping, pulsating, fist-pumping rhythm and energy of that song is untouchable! It's got this marching, futuristic tribal, fashion-forward, stealthy aesthetic - like it's something else! Even the car racing sounds and M.I.A's ad-libs add such a thrill to the track! One of the best cardio workout songs ever in my opinion! 💯

Kala is just so 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥! It's my favourite album of 2007! That's right, I prefer the album more than Britney Spears' Blackout, Burial's Untrue, Radioheads' In Rainbows, Kanye West's Graduation, LCD Soundsystem's Sound Of Silver and Animal Collective's Strawberry Jam! Kala is my 4th favourite album of the 2000's (Kanye West's Graduation, D'Angelo's Voodoo & Madvillainy's Madvillain are the 3 albums I prefer more from the 2000's)!

Kala is a celebration and explosion of sounds! It's cultural, frenetic, lively, danceable, colourful, political and woke! Kala is EVERYTHING!!! 🧨🎆💥🌈

If VMP make Kala an Essentials ROTM, I will legit be crying tears of joy! ♥

You know what I really want VMP to release (probs too 'small' for an essential), M.I.A. ‎– Arular. That album slaps but even the UK pressings for sale on discogs all seem to be in Europe, I cant find an affordable copy here anywhere.

Arular is not small imo and I could see it fit in the Essentials serie (way more than many other "Essentials" you guys had in the last months)

Alfie also killed John Wick’s dog which makes him directly responsible for 299 on screen deaths and counting.

Im loving all the love for M.I.A.

I guess I didnt realise just how popular of an artist she is. I know she won several awards (and has an MBE) but I dont seem to see much mention of her nowerdays. Either way, a decent reissue series would be fantastic!

Tbh I really enjoyed her first album but stopped giving her attention after Paper Planes. Last song of her I enjoyed was MIA featured on a Buraka Som Sistema song. The video is crazy too. At the time she was at the top of what I call "wordlwide electronic music".

M.I.A is definitely popular! But I guess she would have a very diverse listening audience, like you know what I mean? Dirty Projectors is currently releasing music and their current monthly listeners at the moment is 700,000 - they were the January Essentials ROTM! Then The Roots is at 2,700,000 current monthly listeners. M.I.A is at 4,700,000 current monthly listeners!

Also, Arular and Kala are very much loved albums! So I think either would be a huge Essentials ROTM! And I can imagine the promotion and story etc being really fun and eye-catching by VMP too! Fingers crossed we get either of those two as an Essentials ROTM in the future!

I love this song! But yeah, MAYA was such a change of sound. I remember the album being so polarising amongst fans, with many hating the album so much! MAYA was such an abrasive, aggressive, industrial, loud, disorientating, distorted album and I fucking love it! It's got this insanity, destructive, wild aesthetic and I live for it! MAYA was so ahead of its time! It definitely influenced a lot of music from the decade! 🔥 🔥 🔥

I kind of doubt VMP would do a M.I.A. AOTM, I love her music but I feel like they'd veer away from her due to her anti-vaxxer comments she made at the beginning of this year. Then again, they did an exclusive of Bandana with Gibbs' anti-vax lines so who knows.
Wow, I didnt hear about that. Just had a quick search though and it appears she cleared up her stance by stating it was aimed towards the pharmaceutical companies that profit on it. Either way, I can see that being enough to stop her being chosen. I've spent the afternoon jamming to her albums and they're just killer, hopefully one day they get reissued.

"I'm not against vaccines. I'm against companies who care more for profit then humans. I care for better track record that proves this. I care that African countries are not always the testing ground. I don't want it coming from banks / tech /hedge fund sector and I want a choice."

Yeah, I also can’t imagine VMP doing an M.I.A. ROTM because she’s too controversial in general! Like politically, she’s controversial and that Born Free videoclip is super controversial. I feel like VMP would perceive M.I.A. as someone that’s a bit too ‘full on/extreme’ in that sense! M.I.A. has strong views.

So yeah, I doubt VMP will ever touch any of M.I.A.’s work unfortunately, even though she’s such an innovative artist musically!

I felt the same way back when people started rumors they were gonna do JPEGMAFIA AOTM/exclusive. I love Peggy but he is very unflinching when it comes to his political stances and I just don't think that a good chunk of the VMP crowd, given their typical output, would be down to buy an album by a guy who named a song "I Cannot Fucking Wait Until Morrissey Dies"

Oh man, I jam out to that Beth Orton Reggae song about London.
I have the Live Portishead album. I need to check out some Charlatans (I assume you mean Charlatans UK?). Thanks for the recommendations.
The Charlatans are my favourites of that period (although they can't touch the Stone Roses in 89-90). I'd recommend checking out this album first and the two either side of it are excellent as well. I love all their albums up to Wonderland, they then went off the boil a bit, but their last two have been solid as well.

Yeah, true! “I Cannot Fucking Wait Until Morrissey Does” is one hell of a controversial title! 👀

Regardless, if VMP were to do a JPEGMAFIA Exclusive, let’s say limited to 2,000 copies, it would’ve sold out within a day easy, just like how Freddie Gibbs x The Alchemist’s Exclusive sold out in under an hour!

JPEGMAFIA has such a huge and loyal fanbase, that they would’ve purchased the exclusive variant from VMP 100%.

Even if they did VMP did JPEGMAFIA now as a R&HH ROTM, it would sell really well! Word would get around and everyone would want a colour variant of All My Heroes Are Cornballs!

But the creepy knobhead who they did the other month, and whose name escapes me, is ok? Bunch of wankers.

John Mayer? Yeah.....it absolutely sucks that VMP would be happy to do John Mayer, but not someone like M.I.A. 🤦‍♂️

Like.....John Mayer committed sexual assault on a number of different women, yet he gets the green light. However, M.I.A. probably wouldn’t get the green light because she’s too politically woke! 🤨

My stance is that if you can't do a ROTM because of controversy/controversial lyrics you're going to have a really bad time. A large chunk of hip hop right off the bat you're disqualifying. Look at MF Doom and check out the song Batty Boyz. Yeah, he clarified that it was a joke, but that whole song could offend a whole lot of people...yet he was ROTM.

There isnt a single song on that run of three albums that isnt absolutely class. Was listening to Tellin Stories a few days back and it's still got it. Big style. The self titled will probably always be my fave though

See they're releasing live it like you love it tomorrow?
