Jazz

I have had my eyes on this for quite a while. Let us know how it sounds! I have their Ella Sings Cole Porter that is quite divine. Probably the best that album will ever sound. It’s a shame they went out of business.
I have this, their west side story, and sound of music -- all are great pressings. (Note, on the musicals I'm not clear on the distribution arrangements they had with Sony -- but regardless the sound is spectacular)

I’m reading Sophisticated Giant, the biography of Dexter Gordon, and now I really want to watch Round Midnight but can’t seem to find it anywhere online. Has anyone been able to watch it recently? Thanks!

I recently watched it for the first time and came across the same problem. In the end I believe I found a somewhat dodgy download of it.

I saw this pop up yesterday and meant to look into it more. Looks like an interesting session from some great British jazz musicians (Don Rendell and Ian Carr appearances tend to be well received).

Super limited on bandcamp, just 250 copies.

...At Short Notice, by The Michael Garrick Septet featuring Joe Harriott
My copy of Joe Harriott ‎– Chronology (Live 1968-69) arrived today and it looks fantastic. I will listen to it in the evening but from first glance its clear that a lot of care went into it. I love the old style flipback cover and I was excited to see Tubby Hayes features on a few tracks as well.

@britprogjazz I saw you mentioned that the tapes for the Michael Garrick were obtained from Ernie Garside and that he recorded every performance there. This honesty excites me more than anything because I love live jazz and some of the names they had play at Club 43 is incredible. Are there plans to dig into these archives for more releases in the future? I know Sonny Rollins and Johnny Griffin played there in the 60's.

The Kamaal Williams album is very confusing for the vinyl release...Multiple places list an "exclusive silver variant" all in different numbers of pressings...anybody know what the deal is? Bleep has a silver ltd 400, RT has a silver ltd 1000. They also have a silver LP+ that's limited to 200 but includes a cassette. It says RT's variants aren't shipping until October. Meanwhile Bleep's ship tomorrow hah. Anybody able to make sense of it?

I get lost between the variants but I just had shipping for the one I ordered ping through today as a heads up. Was from Rough Trade (UK).

Thanks. I might shoot an email over to RT US to see what the deal is. That's the one I'm hoping to get and ideally could avoid the shipping costs from the UK. Otherwise, might just order from bandcamp as it's cheaper than Bleep and seems like both have the silver variant.

Bit of a different one here which is super limited. Sounds of the Universe and Phonica are selling a limited pressing (100 copies) from a new mysterious group called 'Sauce and Dogs' 'who channel post-punk attitude with fierce jazz-not-jazz vibrations'. Its a pretty eclectic mix but sounds interesting from the clips, plenty of energy for sure. Each sleeve is being hand made with a different design. The descriptions as to who this group are is purposely vague, but they are connected with 'one of the the UK's premier new jazz labels....'. This could be worth picking up.

Sauce And Dogs – S/T | Sounds of the Universe

Edit: Phonica sold out within minutes of it being listed

You can listen to a few tracks from about 20 mins here

Damnnnn talk about detective work! I will give them a listen through now.
I refuse to buy pretty much everything (especially from unknown projects) without giving it a listen first. I'm not looking to flip; I want only to own things I really like. My first thought was it was OK but I didn't like it enough to buy (and that it was only tangentially jazz).

Yeah theres a few tracks in there which I dig. Others seem a bit too heavy but I have only heard the clips from SotU of them. I will listen through again and make a decision.

It's all the same pressing it's just that Bleep has 400 which come with a print and RT have 1000 of them out of which 200 are with a cassette. I doubt they'll get separate listings on discogs.

I liked what I heard on the samples so took a punt on it. Is it samples or is an actual band ? Sounded exciting anyway.

Its an actual group performing original compositions from what I understand. I've listened to the link @Poly-Rythmo sent over a couple times now and really like the 'S/T' track, the percussion is great I've gone and put the order in as well
