Pre-Order Thread

Spoke about this one in a recent grabs post; I thought the vinyl wraparound was just a thicker but otherwise normal sticker, so would be a pain to re-apply seeing the air bubbles under it already and might pick up crap over time. It had the track list and title on though so didn’t want to remove it. Ended up cutting through it on the side with the record and never taking it off at all. When I realised how it was supposed to be done I felt like an idiot but is what others have gone with and you can’t notice it when it’s in the outer sleeve, just looks normal.

I’m 100% up for creative packaging and think it’s great from a visual perspective but it should be clear where you’re supposed to open or engage with it knowing it’s a collectors item and people won’t want to put too much pressure or pull on areas too much without knowing they’re supposed to give way.

Unless the packaging was sold as a puzzle to open or something similar, which are the exceptions and can be neat.
Oh man! I almost destroyed my outer sleeve duee to the fact that I didn’t know how to open it. I cut about two inches on one side when I was all like “this isn’t supposed to be cut” so I tapped it back up! I like the design of it though... it’s like a new abnormal... 💀😂

Yeah, they could at least have made it clearer where to open the thing. This reminds me of the Fight Club reissue where you actually had to rip open the jacket to get to the vinyl. I loved how they made that obvious with the word "Sacrifice".

So... I just got the press release for Fantastic Damage and it sounds like a physical might not be dropping Friday and it's just the digital today that he was referring to. The vinyl is coming "later this year," and it sounds like a non-VMP ISWYD repress, as well.

"Iconic rapper and producer El-P, perhaps best known as one half of powerhouse rap duo Run the Jewels, recently announced an extensive reissue campaign of his full solo catalog via Fat Possum Records. Unavailable for nearly a decade, January 2020 marked the digital release of I'll Sleep When You're Dead, on streaming services for the very first time since its initial release in 2007. Today, his critically acclaimed and massively influential 2002 debut solo album, Fantastic Damage, makes its own official streaming debut in conjunction with its 18th anniversary, to be followed by physical editions of both albums later this year."

Oh boy, oh boy, here we go - pre-orders should be available from your usual suspects.

A.A.L. (Against All Logic) - 2017-2019

A.A.L. (Against All Logic) - Illusions Of Shameless Abundance / Alucinao
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas! This is the vinyl release I’ve been freaking waiting for! 3LP too?!? 🤔😍😱

Have you seen them do that before? I haven't. I've been checking it fairly regularly and it seems steadily going down, just slowed down a lot around 100 or so.

Based on reddit comments, it was originally at 600 and changed to 1000 or something to that effect. Maybe it was less. I can't remember the numbers or if someone was claiming that it originally listed a pressing number which was changed and/or removed. I got to it after that, so someone else might be able to comment, but I definitely haven't seen the numbers shift myself. Im general, random sites do that, though. Mostly, I don't want to be liable for someone's FOMO, only to watch the numbers shoot back up. It's just my disclaimer.

This is from the announcement email, so I'd be surprised if it originally said anything about 600.

I haven't seen anything like that from them in the past, so I'd be surprised if they did anything funny with this initial press at least. Probably will get some sort of a repress though.

I know what you mean a bout other numbers appearing or represses happening. I think bumping up the numbers is lame, but I don't worry too much about it. I think they should press as much as they can sell, just better to not fudge numbers like some do.

From what I had seen the pre-order goes up tomorrow but they don't come out until August. No idea if that was just speculation but that's what I had seen

Thanks! That settles it.

Like I said, this should be it, unless something funny happens. I never saw that announcement, so maybe whoever commented meant that, prior to the announcement of 1000 copies, there was talk of a different number they'd heard about

The RTJ email says this exactly

"And while you’re at it, def make sure to check out two really special releases this month from the main man, El-P. First up is the official re-release of El’s debut solo album, Fantastic Damage, which will be available for the very first time on streaming services. First released in 2002 on his iconic Indie label, Definitive Jux, Fan Dam has achieved certified classic status as one of the most important rap albums of its era, and cemented El-P as force to reckon with.

It drops this Friday on Fat Possum Records, who also released El-P’s last solo effort, 2012’s Cancer 4 Cure, and his recently re-released 2007 opus, I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead. Vinyl will be available this August. Dig in!"

If you check the wording, it only states that the album will go up on Fat Possum on Friday, but doesn't specify whether or not a vinyl pre-order is on Friday, only that the vinyl is in August. It very well might be, or they might just be referring to the digital, but it doesn't specify, either way. Meanwhile, the actual press release from his publicist only mentions that it's now streaming and that the vinyl is coming later this year. It doesn't say anything about the pre-order going live. It's possible that they send me something new tomorrow, because that happens, but it usually mentions that a pre-order is going up, because they want people to hype it. The wording is still kind of vague.

Restock of Free Nationals album. It’s still stuck in preorder but the band has been pretty communicative at least about the delays
