Phoenix isn't an album that I mind owning but it seems like such a disappointing pick for 2000s indie.

Not for me. I get that it can be had cheaply, but I absolutely adore this album even though I've never picked it up.
It's one of the few AOTMs that I have a strong personal connection to. 2009 was a big year for me; I was somewhat fresh off of recovering from an opiate problem and had just gotten accepted to grad school about a month before this album came out. It felt up-beat and optimistic and everything that I needed to feel better about myself and confident about the direction I was taking my life in. 10 years later I think I've been pretty successful with all of it, and finally being able to put it on my table kinda brings everything full circle for me. Almost like this was supposed to happen and I wasn't supposed to buy an earlier pressing, so I could take time to have some perspective on it all.
So yeah, I'm beyond elated for this release.
I'll fourth this sentiment. KoL's first album is so good! Their second album is pretty good... but their first album! SO good!
After that though...

I went to a Phoenix concert about 5-6 years ago, it was supposed to be at Red Rocks but there were huge thunderstorms (thunder is rare here) that morning so they moved it indoors only for it to be a beautiful day, nonetheless, it was a great concert

I was at the Red Rocks show for the Ti Amo tour and we got soaked with rain and a little hail! Luckily didn't have to evacuate to the parking lot for thunder, at least. And yeah - it was a great show too.

That’s awesome! I’ll have 5 years in August myself. It’s a powerful connection with the music I was listening to in the beginning of that.

I was in college and we really rocked out the the YAYM CD (yep!). We went to their show at the 930 or maybe the Black cat club in DC and they were playing upstairs at the smaller stage. Me and my bud were jumping around and singing to some of the songs and I just remember this one guy being like “wow you guys really like them”... because at that time they were so unknown.

This is a cool story. I can't argue a personal connection to a record. I have a few too, but I would admit they might not be 'big' for everyone else. I agree with some of the earlier posters, that this is a fine album, just not something I'm really excited for. I am happy for you though, I know I would have the same feeling if I had that connection. For me... it might be swap city.

I have seen Phoenix live once, and it was a great show. As others here have said, I like this album fine enough, but not enough for me to have on vinyl. It does have a couple of things going for it for me, though...
1) My wife likes Phoenix, and especially this album. It's good for everyone involved to keep her involved and interested in this hobby too
2) While my memories of this album are not nearly as strong as @GroovesInMiddleAmerica 's, I do have fond memories of listening to this as I was closing out my time at college and transitioning into "the real world"
I still think they're playing a little dirty selling this in the store at a time when they had to have known this was coming up as a ROTM... Just glad that I didn't buy it then just to have a better (I hope) package sent to me a couple months later.

My main disappointment is that there's so much good 2000s stuff that's out of print and needs a repress.

This is the thing that bothers me the most. I was all-in on this months pick, thinking it would be a "blockbuster" worthy selection from that era. WAP is a solid album, and I still remember that "HOLY SHIT!" moment the first time I heard 1901, but it hasn't aged that great, and it's been licensed to hell and back so half the songs just remind me of a commercial I saw recently. The fact it was also just for sale in the store is a bit shameful, but what do we expect at this point?
Having said that, if it had been one of those "blockbusters" like Merriweather or something, I'd already had owned it. My waning opinion on WAP has led to me never purchasing it, and thus, if the packaging is solid enough, I'll probably stick with it. Also on the glass half full note, my daughters will probably love dancing around to this one.

Weirdly, Amazon sent me a copy of this when I ordered Lil Ugly Mane's 3 Sided Tape. Pretty sure you can still get it there too~
