Seattle / Tacoma / Washington

I'm headed to Seattle June 6th to 10th - any must-see concerts in that stretch? In Philly we have a great concert calendar run by our local radio station, XPN, that lists every concert from every venue chronologically. Anything similar in Seattle to browse?

The Strangers site is great for looking at a specific day, but for whatever reason you can't search a block of days. So I just usually default to Songkick. Tacocat is playing on that Saturday, and if you can handle their brand of sugary indie pop they are a fun live act to see.

Hey yall, I actually might be moving to Seattle next month for a new job (still some things timing wise to iron out). Could I ask for a rundown of your favorite/recommended neighborhoods (housing costs, nightlife, etc.) for some insight as I start to apartment hunt?

From one transplant to potentially another, welcome!!

I'm sure other here have more and better info than me, but I can chime in a bit. I've only lived here for the last 4 years and love it...except for the rent! Paying twice as much for half the space that I had in Rhode Island. Having only been here so long (and cuz I dont really meet people at my job) I am still discovering things. If you find any affordable areas yourself let me know lol

I live in the northern part University District which I feel like is just close enough to everything but still just removed enough from most of the hustle and bustle. Rent is ok in my area but it's a challenge to find a good deal in my opinion (and we wanna move soon but we will stay in the same area, wish me luck!). I'm a bit of a foodie and nature nerd, so I tend to hang out in Capitol Hill, or Fremont/Frelard/Ballard area where I find lots of good places to eat, Discovery Park for walking (if you're a bird nerd, Union Bay/Montlake Fill near UW is the absolute best), and plenty of great music venues. You're never far from a good show here. I particularly enjoy Nectar Lounge, Tractor Tavern, and Neumos. Just 3 of many. My brother who is a session bassist in NYC came to visit and was blown away by the live music scene here, says NYC has nothing on us, so you're definitely in for a treat!

I'm a superfan of our community radio station KEXP, they have live music there often and they have a nice gathering space in Seattle Center with a great coffee shop and a record store.

West Seattle is pretty fun to hang out in too but I just haven't spent that much time there yet to give any sort of directions or recommendations but Easy Street Records there is pretty nifty, even has a diner on the ground floor.

Let's keep each other in the loop with our new discoveries! Hope you have a smooth journey out here and enjoy yourself when you make it :)

I haven't lived in the City for over a decade now, so I'm not exactly an authority on where to live, but SWT is right... it's pricey everywhere. If I had to move back, I'd look in the more affordable "up-and-coming" areas like Georgetown or Beacon Hill. Great art and food scene in both areas, without the crippling rent/mortgage prices.

Georgetown has a brewery with a donut shop that uses the spent grain to make the donuts :) haven't looked at rent there tho cuz it's just a bit far from where my girlfriend and I need to be

Do206.com has everything consolidated, calendar-wise. I'll also get my shit together and post some suggestions in here later, if you'd like

Real Estate is playing in Tacoma Friday night HERE
Tickets are super reasonable and the venue is great (it’s fairly new, we’ve seen both Waxahatchee and Wolf Parade there recently) between this place and the new McMenamin’s Elks Club, Tacoma actually has venues that can handle/draw decent mid-tier musical acts.

Looks like I'm moving

Thanks @MikeyP and @Dead C for the suggestions.

I just checked out the do206 website, which is great. I appreciate the Tacocat suggestion but I think I'd rather see MONO that night at Neumos if I get out. If I chose one night of my stay for a concert though, I'll probably go to The Chromatics on Friday night, or The Operators on Sunday night. Great options!

Yeah. MONO is the correct move between those two
