Vinyl Me Please Classics

Hey there, what’s the skinny on Brubeck? Haven’t had a chance to spin yet but want to know what to keep an ear out for.
Some folks are having issues with distortion (possibly on the piano track) starting on A2. The issue appears to be widespread enough that some haven’t been required to send in a video. FWIW, mine copy sound great but it’s worth checking out while they are still in stock.

"It's" and "That's" are not verbs. I guess the "is" part is, but I think he was talking about whole words that are contracted.

"Illin" as in "You Be Illin" and "Raisin'" as in "Rainin' All The Time" are verbs. It's Raising Hell and Lucille, not Blues On Top Of Blues.
Except doesn’t Lucille have 9 songs? Unless I’m reading that divisible fraction clue wrong, the album needs to have an even number of songs.

For me personally, although A2 was notable for being terrible, most of the record had terrible distortion. Highs would crackle or "bass-out" almost like the recording microphone couldn't handle the instruments.

Listened to mine this afternoon and I didn’t notice any of this. I’ll give it another listen tomorrow and make sure but I’m cautiously optimistic that mine is ok.

I've got rice crispies for a lot of mine but my cleaning seems to have got rid of the distortion. Not sure I'll be able to record the crackles effectively but I'll try. One of the noisier new records I've gotten in a while.

Has anyone noticed there is almost a total dropout in the left channel near the end of A2? At least seems like it suddenly gets much quieter. Doesn't sound like that on another version I've heard online.

My copy sounds pretty good. A little minor surface noise, which may come out when it is properly cleaned.

By the way, why has no one mentioned that the listening notes uses the term "dyed-in-the-wool jazzbos"? Is that like a little Easter egg or homage to the Vinyl junkie guy? How has that not come up so far?

I think jazzbo is an actual real term, so the writer might just know it from that. Personally, I like to think him and vinyl junkie are besties.

For what it’s worth, my Brubeck arrived today, (UK) and it’s wonderful. No packaging damage, although that plastic cover is a bit tight. The sound is clear, a few pops as reported elsewhere but otherwise silent, but most important the content is wonderful. I recall someone saying as they get older, and closer to death, Jazz seems to resonate more, hehe. This Album is exactly what I needed in my collection. I was worried it was going to be some chintzy western take on JAPANESE music but there was none of that, just talented musicians playing in harmony with soul. Now I need Classics to do some Carmen McRae and Chet Baker and I’m sorted

Spun mine last night after a clean. Sounded good, no issues for me. Really loved this one too, super interesting. I'm going to dive deeper on Brubek.

True story: I saw him live about 10 years ago. He came to my university for a performance. I went on a whim, not having a clue who he was. He had to helped to the stage, but he still had it. As I've been digging deeper into jazz and rediscovering him, I'm reminded of that night.
