Television

Westworld S1 was good, but not great, and S2 was pretty bad. Theyve hooked me with that S3 trailer tho, so here's hoping for the best.

I know this is an impossible question to answer but what would have made it great instead of good in your eyes?

The music placement is so perfect.. the scene that goes with this music is just.. phenomenal..

Or maybe it was all the mdma I was doing at the time?

Anyone done the second season of American Gods? We loved the first season but it was such a long gap between we've struggled to find the desire to jump back in just yet.
This is honestly the biggest problem with prestige TV, and even more so in the age of binge watching. I can watch a whole season of something in two days, and by two weeks later I'm starting to forget crucial plot details. By the time the next season comes out a year later, I've forgotten entire plotlines. In the case of a show like The OA, where there's 3 years between season 1 and season 2? Forget it.

Same boat. Not sure I'm really that interested in it since Bryan Fuller's departure but I will probably check it out.

I like what they were trying to do I just didnt like the way they went about it. The story was consistently getting in it's own way, and felt like they were trying to outsmart the viewer in a way that just fell flat imo.

The music in Westworld is on point I'll give them that.

I'm so old and out of touch now that I learn about dope 'new' songs from television shows. Paak's Come On Down (from Iron Fist), that song from Rich & Marty, etc.. 20 year old me would be ashamed.

I basically feel the same about Westworld. I think @gouis once said (in reference to Westworld) "it thinks a lot smarter than it is" and I couldn't agree more

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Westworld. The themes are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of existential philosophy, most of those themes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Robert's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Zarathustrian literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these themes, to realise that they're not just motifs- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Westworld truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Robert's existential catchphrase "These violent delights have violent ends," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as not-Christopher-Nolan's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Westworld tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

Same boat here. I read the entire book in just about a week and was so ready for season one. Ended up liking it, not loving it. Then this long gap happened, and Fuller left the show, and so now season two is here (or is it over already?) and I just haven’t felt compelled to watch it yet. Maybe one day. But at the moment, the idea doesn’t even excite me.

For people struggling finding something to watch, here are some of my recent favorites:
Killing Eve
Barry
Fleabag
Dead to Me
Catastrophe
Bodyguard
Informer
Russian Doll

I gave up on S2 of Westworld halfway through, I might dip back in for S3 but am not overly optimistic. Looking forward to new seasons of Big Little Lies, Mindhunter, and Elementary (my guilty pleasure)

That's a spicy meatball.

Honestly, I find it boring. I don't find the concepts outlined by any of the characters to be new thoughts.
I do enjoy it and find the story compelling at times, but I get the feeling that the audience is supposed to be shocked or look at themselves in the mirror with regards to the behaviors of human and human - seeking character alike, and I'm not. It's all stuff I've thought about and engaged with already - nothing new. That doesn't mean it's bad - I just think the writers present something that isn't a new idea like it's supposed to be - which is fine.

I was just using the Rick & Morty copypasta edited to apply to Westworld. My apologies.. either people didn't get it or they did and it just wasn't funny.

Oh yeah, when the fuck is Mindhunter coming back? I totally loved season one and have been anxious for more ever since.
