Hip Hop

Anyone else think the reaction to Kanye this weekend has been a bit much? Sure he's frenetic and a bit problematic but I feel this whole Jesus Is King fiasco has been nowhere near as bad as people seem to think.

First of all we've had no info straight from him, the only official stuff was Kim posting 'Jesus Is King', the tracklist, and the date. No one said an album was coming on the 27th, but people still call him a liar over what happened. There was the listening party, so who's to say Kim's post wasn't just about that?

Not going to deny I checked Spotify quite a few times throughout the day, but I haven't been slightly dissapointed yet.

It all falls down to how big of a fan you are really.

We have now.
Did u listen to the leak?

Yeah I guess so, I suppose I should have said we hadn't been promised an album, she still never said it but definitely seems to be implying JIK is an album coming soon.

Nah I never mess with leaks, you could spend your whole life listening to music and not cover 1% of proper releases so I prefer to keep it as the artist intended. I heard the snippets on Instagram, those plus the fact that there was a listening party is enough for me that it exists.

Haha, nah nothing apart from the Black Skinhead demo.
I get that leaks are a part of Hip-Hop in a different way to other kinds of music, but for every leak you listen to you could listen to 100 tracks that were published as they were meant to be heard too.

we will never hear it all only the stuff that gets in our tunnel vision.. so id rather focus on the artist I already love tbh otherwise ill get lost haha

Jesus Is King mp3 < the new kanye album.. its a recording of the event he just did tho so not top notch quality.
Thanks for the link.

Initial thoughts....
Production on this album sounds beautiful.
Hopefully Kanye keeps producing for secular artists.
That Chick-fil-A song is dumb.
Really hope New Body makes the album.
Youth ministers are going to love this album.
Clipse + Kenny G feature, *chef's kiss*

Anyone see Conways IG yesterday? him and his boy shopping in Dallas and cops kicked them out the mall for wearing a hoody and saggy jeans lol He streamed the 4 cops escorting him out the mall

so Kanye's only making Gospel music going forward?!?!
There's no way this lasts, if it's even true that this new album is getting released anyway.

Feel free to disagree but I just can't take *anything* Kanye says anymore as true. If he says an album is dropping on a certain date, that's almost a guarantee that's *not* when it's coming out.

He puts so many things out there for the headlines and media attention and people eat it up because it's Kanye. The dude is talented and has made some great music, but if you take anything he says as gospel (heh) anymore then I don't know what to say.

Your post as a whole is not wrong, but I disagree with this paragraph. Like yeah he's unpredictable and unaccountable, but in this JIK instance we haven't had a single word from his mouth. The dates and times for an album release that hasn't happened, came from other people trying to pin down the situation and get some news out. The industry people thinking there wasn't anything coming, Kim's tweets, Def Jam posting the pic of him, his manager giving a time. He probably asked Kim to make the tweets, but I see everything else as essentially speculation.

All it took was a couple of tweets and you get publications like Rolling Stone and NME publishing articles that an album that was never even promised is now delayed.

Kanye could reign in the hype if he wanted to, but he doesn't even have to do anything and it escalates out of control by itself, that's not his fault.

True, but like you said, Kanye could clarify but he's not going to, because it brings more attention to let fans and music publications endlessly speculate on a project he may or may not even put out. He knows people are expecting an album and he sure hasn't tried to do anything to dissuade people from thinking that he's going to put one out. Almost everyone assumed that the post Kim made was the track listing for a new album titled Jesus is King. It wouldn't be that difficult for Kanye or a representative for him to set the record straight if that *wasn't* the case. I get that he's not exactly obligated to clarify anything, but let's not act like all this speculation is 100% the fault of other people and that Kanye has no control over the story.

Well the thing is, I'm 99% sure he thinks he will drop the album. Even pretty sure he originally planned to drop it on the 27th but didn't decide to delay it until he'd actually played it at the listening party. It's not like it doesn't exist, people have heard it. The next listening party is about to start, my speculation is that he's made some changes and will make his next decision after he's played the update in NYC.

He could be more transparent about it all, but it would be useless because he's completely making everything up as he goes along, so I think it's fine that an album was never explicitly announced or his position never clarified. Since TLOP it's just been his process, he knows by now he can't commit to a release date so he's just doing what he needs to do to get it out. Obviously he wouldn't want to kill the hype like he could, nor should he have to because his fans can't be patient.

He said Life of Pablo was a gospel album as well. Gospel doesn’t automatically equal something that you’d hear in church.

George Harrison, Dylan, Al Green, plenty of others made albums that some (artists included) would consider as gospel albums.

His website has a date of last Friday. That’s an official announcement, not speculation.

Before my response I'm gonna say that now we're at the stage where I'm disappointed, mostly in that the 29th is long gone without not only the album, but especially without an explanation or acknowledgement.

That's just the same image that Kim originally posted, literally no mention of an album, that was an assumption everyone made. For all this image tells us it could have just been a poem he decided to write.
