I don’t think it’s backwards, I think it’s inside-out (but still forwards). So, spinning the same way but the groove is inverted. I do think actual backwards would be bad for the reasons you suggest.

Yes, you are describing it better…I also guess anti-skate would probably do the opposite of what I described in that situation, more likely to push it “forward” and cause skipping.
