What's Spinning

Fiona Apple - When The Pawn Hits The Conflicts He Thinks Like A King What He Knows Throws The Blows When He Goes To The Fight And He'll Win The Whole Thing 'Fore He Enters The Ring There's No Body To Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right.

Yeah, Hiss Golden Messenger included it in his Bandcamp favorites list. He had some other great picks in there, including Joshua Abrams & Natural Information Society. I picked up a copy at Mississippi Records, $14 new. It comes with a booklet similar to the ones included with the Cairo soul compilations. Good stuff.
Nice, I'll have to pop over there. The Joshua Abrams isn't on vinyl though, right?

Mahavishnu Orchestra ‎– Birds Of Fire (Columbia CBS, 1973 First UK Pressing)

Sad to hear of the news that bassist Rick Laird passed away yesterday. He was instrumental in the British jazz scene, from his early days as the house bassist at Ronnie Scott's club to his time in the first iteration of the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
