I know pressing works that way.So do many reissue labels though. I’d be shocked if they paid all the licensing fees up front. They had a bunch of projects killed after test pressing stage so paying it all up front wouldn’t make sense.
They also only pay part up front for pressing too and remainder upon delivery.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they had never gotten some titles licensed before test pressing. Knowing what we do about the real final nail in their coffin and also the whole Roberto Rodriguez Sin City realize your vision method of doing things. Storf - “We’ll show Lauryn just how awesome her album can sound.” Ms. Hill - “I don’t give a fuck white boy.”
After posting this, i realize there is little chance of them getting access to the masters prior to talking to the rights holder. I still like the idea of Lauryn Hill telling Storf to fuck off though.
