@Joe Mac wants to give them a go. I told him to dive into 69 Love Songs because it's their magnum opus. Where do you reckon he should go next? The music is quite diverse. I'm quite fond of Merritt's electro pop/disco project Future Bible Heroes.

This post is going to make me dig out my 69 Love Songs box and give it a spin tomorrow.
 
Anybody else every try to make a Top 10 of songs from 69 Love Songs? It's really quite hard, and I keep having to swap things.
I will say, though, that my lists tend to be heavy on Vol. 1, followed by 3. Volume 2 is the most difficult of the three for me to listen to straight through.

Definitely “Holiday” it’s a super solid, complete Magnetic Fields album. Plus “Strange Powers” could easily fit on 69 Love Songs

It’s decent. Some songs are fun, but most listens I’ve given it, my attention has been divided.
 
Stephin Merritt has to be in the discussion of best “love song” song writers. Another 69 Love Song-esque song on a different albhm

Papa was a rodeo is such a great song.
 
"The Death of Ferdinand De Saussure" is my 69 track.

"Strange Powers" was my entry point.

While maybe not a popular opinion, I have a real soft spot for Realism. Primarily for "From a Sinking Boat".
